Avigdor Lieberman has met with President Rivlin and recommended Gantz lead an "emergency national government". Earlier today, the Arab List unanimously voted to back Gantz. A Gantz premiership moves a step closer. Particularly significant that Balad joined with the Joint List recommendation, despite refusing in the past. It could be the game-changer and, if so, Netanyahu's own fault for totally denying the legitimacy of Israeli-Arabs votes.

President Rivlin has given the green light to Gantz to try and form a government. Gantz has his shot now...

Balad are distrusted, and in the case of MK Zoabi justly despised, by the majority of the Israeli public.

The (Likud) Speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, is playing silly buggers and refusing to convene a session to change the government, and also to elect a new Speaker. Blue and White are going to the Supreme Court without delay.

To no-one's surprise the Supreme Court has directed the Speaker to convene the Knesset and allow a vote on a new Speaker.
Last night the Knesset set up some of its important committees. Likud and allies went off in a sulk and didn't turn up.

Speaker Yuli Edestein first defied the Supreme Court order, then resigned in a huff and put out a statement attacking the court. Under the law his resignation only takes effect in 48 hours.
When that happens, the law says the acting Knesset speaker is the longest-serving member. That's Amir Peretz - the leader of the Labour Party and a supporter of Blue and White.

It's all gone rather Benny MacDonald - or seems to be heading that way.

If the plan depends on Bibi Netanyahu honouring an agreement to cede power, I think I can spot a possible flaw in the plan.

Adding to the general hilarity is that Yamina - noting that it's Covid boom has come from across the political and demographic divides - appears to be undergoing a process of full Jobbikization, at least for the moment.

I liked this, but it should be noted that if Saar's party achieves anything like the 15-19 seats currently projected, then Netanyahu's path to the premiership is very narrow indeed, and that's including Bennett.

The collapse of the Israeli government is imminent.
