At one point in the Forties/early Fifties, Neumünster had the highest proportion of expellees of any town in Germany. But then many left for the Rhineland and Hamburg in search of work.

Saxony Anhalt goes to the polls a week on Sunday. The latest polling would indicate that the FDP would regain representation in the Langtag. politpro.eu/en/saxony-anhaltah, three new polls in the past couple of days. I had been wondering what was going on - there were no polls for a month before that.

The district of Darmstadt-Dieburg will elect its leader tomorrow. 2015 CDU received not more than 29% (against 65% for the SPD-inc.) and as a result only left candidates (once again the SPD-inc., then TheGreens, TheLeft, TheParty [satirical]) will run, what makes it on the one hand meaningless for polling the national trends, but on the other hand funny. Results: www.ladadi.de/landkreis-verwaltung/wahlen/landratswahl-2021.html

Hmmmm... It is 20 years since Guido Westerwelle went on Stefan Raab singing "achtzehn Prozent" to the tune of the YMCA.
This would be the closest the FDP would be to 18 per cent since 2005, and higher than every Bundestag election ever, including the days of the Große Tiere like Genscher.

What is the present attraction of the FDP, and who are they appealing to?

What is the present attraction of the FDP, and who are they appealing to? Rather nobody else than CDU-voters, who are dissatisfied (Laschet-nomination, Covid-managment). And could finally migrate back in order to enable BlackGreen instead of GreenBlack.

I wouldn't vote SPD, but I like Scholz.

A two party coalition is starting to look unlikely after the election in September. (Unless perhaps Linke gets 4.9% and zero seats which means the percentage needed for a majority would be lower).
