Local elections in Thuringia on Sunday. The AfD have definitely underperformed, coming top in only one district, Altenburger Land (these will go to runoffs in most cases).
The CDU meanwhile have had some stonking results. Over 75 per cent in Weimar, and over 80 in Suhl. Schmalkalden has gone to the SPD. Erfurt looks like a runoff to watch between the CDU and SPD.
In more bizarre news, an outright neo Nazi has made the runoff in Hildburghausen, although he has been active there before. He will face a Freie Wähler candidate.
Jena looks like an intriguing tie between multiple parties, with the FDP edging it according to some reports.

The FDP incumbent is easily ahead in Jena... on 25% of the vote. 2nd to 6th place is a hilarious clusterfuck with the final order of 2 Green on 15%, 3 Left, 4 AfD, 5 CDU, 6 SPD still on 12%
Hildburghausen shows what happens when there are multiple elections (council and Landrat, oh and municipalities I presume) and the AfD are standing for only some of them, ie most of their supporters will vote for whoever has the most fascist vibe, but we knew that already. Gotta say that 42% FW, 25% nazi indy, 25% CDU, 8% leftfield indy is an incredibly bleak result.
I haven't had a look at results elsewhere, these two have come to my attention because they produce banter.

A question on that bottom section. Is that Flughafen and Sachsenhausen all in one for these purposes, or am I misidentifying?

Notable from the above maps that BSW support is rather more evenly distributed than the Linke remnant.

Sachsenhausen South incl Flughafen - anything south of Mörfelder/Offenbacher Landstraße (which is for the most part functionally near-identical to south of the railway line)

Notable from the above maps that BSW support is rather more evenly distributed than the Linke remnant. And completely differently, looking rather like an SPD map. Few direct Left-BSW switchers, though I reckon most BSW voters probably voted Left back in 2009 (they're certainly old enough)

Exactly where you'd imagine their votes to be.

Obviously some wins on very low shares. One AfD win, numerous AfD, FDP, Volt second places.

Fechenheim? 4 precincts in the western Gallus, Friedrich-Ebert-Siedlung, Hellerhof and part of the very old redbrock estate between (the green precinct in between is where my mom grew up). The little estate hidden deep in the commercial western Gutleut. The Mainfeld highrises across the river in Niederrad. Also south of the river, not the Heimatsiedlung for once, but the denser northern part of the 50s/60s estate south of it. In the east, the western half of the Riederwald and the southern half of Fechenheim-Nord (the northern precinct also includes some much posher housing). Scattered across the north and west, part of the Ben-Gurion-Ring, the southernmost bit of the Nordi incl the NWZ itself, the ex-US army Platenstraße housings in Ginnheim, the northern half of Westhausen (looks like eastern on the outline map but that's due to uninhabited bits), the Postsiedlung which is officially Bockenheim but feels like it should be part of Rödelheim, and the northern end of Unterliederbach's eastside, famous for its inhabited noise barrier right by the motorway. You get the drift. The AfD win is the tower blocks on Frankfurter Berg.

An inhabited noise barrier?!
I went up to the NWZ recently. That's a...strange place.

Hopefully these questions aren't annoying but...where are those BSW hotspots? Can you discern an explanation or pattern?

Hopefully these questions aren't annoying but...where are those BSW hotspots? Can you discern an explanation or pattern? Estateland, some of it looks like a Muslim (Palestine) vote. Notice though how it correlates with the turnout map, this isn't so much a big BSW vote as a lack of a big vote for anybody (see also SPD, AfD) Came second in that Platenstraße precinct, whose result is off the wall 1500 reg'd voters, Turnout 36% SPD 14.5 BSW 13.8 AfD 13.0 CDU 12.1 Left 9.4 Greens 7.7 DAVA (an Islamic splinter party) 5.8 Mera25 (Varoufakis, got 1.0 citywide, certainly a Palestine vote here) 5.1 FDP 4.9 Volt 3.8
