With 24/26 municipalities counted it is clear, that one FDP-incumbent, who had to face a parliamentarian inquiry-committee (the first in the canton's history!), got deselected. Future's distribution of the 5 cantonal ministers will be: 2 SPS ; 1 FDP , 2 SVP. In the present climate[change] only 1/5 ministers for the left in a canton consisting to 50% of its capital was from the beginning hard to preserve for SVP&FDP.

In the town of Schaffhausen the left held its majority - a second SPS-minister will replace the far-left incumbent of AlternativeList/AL:

This SunDay is generally referenda-day. OpinionPolls for SVP's one against ImMigration: Very clear, as BigBusiness/FDP&CVP campaigned against it with ScareMongering, that a YES and an end of the bilateral treaties with the EU would be terribly (Brexit playing a role). OpinionPolls for buying new FightingJets: It has helped, that SVP does no longer hold the DefenceMinistry. And as always lots of regional&local elections will take place, too: After the government some weeks ago the parliament of canton Schaffhausen will be elected - here is an OverView of historical results: The smallest canton - AppenzellInnerrhoden (15.000) - has nonpartisan MPs (the more or less close to CVP). In Aargau the OutCome at the districts' level will give a first impression, how the election on October 18th will end. Local votes in St.Gallen and Graubünden. Numberless local referenda.

The main referendum - SVP's on ImMigration - is projected to fail 62:38. Still a little bit better than the expected low 30ies. Buying new FightingJets is a TossUp, what is a huge boost for the left. That on foxes/hunting is also 50:50. The one on paid leave for fathers is accepted.

Because of the federal referenda only 1/3 is counted of the cantonal election in Schaffhausen, naturally more the rural&remote parts (close the Zurich's WineLand-region). But even there SVP is losing strongly (but most to new sub-lists [SVP-youth, SVP-farmers, SVP-SME, SVP-pensionists). Also SPS. GPS and especially the GreenLiberals are gaining.

Schaffhausen: 5 of 6 constituencies are done. SVP&FDP&EDU seem to have stabilized - perhaps they can defend their 33/60 majority. Similar to the times before Miss Greta it's mainly SPS losing votes to the GREEN parties.

The main referendum - SVP's on ImMigration - is projected to fail 62:38. Still a little bit better than the expected low 30ies. That's good that its higher than expected. Although it still keeps Switzerland tied into the Bilaterals and free movement of course the better than expected result for Yes is I hope good for Swiss resistance to the proposed EU vassal state Treaty. As you know the EU, Michel Barnier and pro EU politicians in Switzerland have been spending the last few years pushing to replace the Bilaterals with a Ukraine style vassal state treaty that would essentially subordinate all of Swiss law to the ECJ under 'dynamic allignement' A chunk of the No voters today will be people who are not enthusiastic about further integration or subordination of Switzerland to the EU but who were nervous about making any sudden break. With over 38% voting Yes that only needs to be a quarter of today's No voters to block the new proposed treaty. Has there been any polling on the new proposed Treaty you know about? I haven't found more than an OpinionPoll from May 2019: www.cash.ch/news/politik/umfrage-kaum-unterstuetzung-fuer-eu-rahmenvertrag-im-volk-1339655Not more than 20% support for the "RahmenVertrag" with the EU. And tomorrow "the SocialPartners" (= at least the TradeUnions) will announce their opposition to the treaty. And EU "loses more and more its patience" with its naughty StepChild CH, i.e. plays hard.

St.Gallen, CityCouncil: Also very satisfying OutCome for RedGreen in a formerly not so strong town.

So they voted to buy the jets and save the wolves? Yes. And they are probably the only country worldwide, where the electorate opts against TaxReductions... (Well, admittingly the left opposed it, because it would not benefit the poorer 40% families, who do not pay the FederalTax and would have helped mothers to stay at home; for some budgetists of FDP&SVP like FinanceMinister Maurer [SVP] it was too costly.)

On free movement, you have to remember that the Swiss version of it still involves permits and registration. Much like... Belgium's. But the referendum probably didn't pass because restrictions are reasonably solid already.

But the referendum probably didn't pass because restrictions are reasonably solid already. Switzerland has had in recent years an annual ImMigration of ~130.000 (70% EU-citizens), an EMigration of ~60.000, giving a plus of 70.000, the total population exploding within a short period to 8.5 millions. The UnEmployment has remained very low (3% or 5%), but otherwise this development has caused lots of difficulties and worries (also among antiGrowth-Greenies, who had started another successless referendum few years ago). Most Swiss are certainly not enthusiased by this prospect of a 10m-CH, but the MidLeft mobilized once again their people successfully (comparatively very high TurnOut) and the fear, that the EU could stop all bilateral TradeTreaties, could close the entry into its market, horrified the BusinessPeople in FDP and CVP (even few in SVP).

I was in Switzerland over the summer and as well as the more touristy places I also spent a day swimming at the Strandbad in Zug where you'd expect most people to be locals.
Was surprised by how many English voices I heard, certainly there's a few English speaking immigrants in the Zug area.

Most parents would like for economical reasons English as first foreign language in the kindergarden instead of French/German, but politically this is not doable because "We must save the unity of the country!". But it happens privately nonetheless.
