Surprised this one hasn't been postponed - the voters will arguably have to be "brave" to go to the polls at all...... They'll all be staying away from each other. As they say, everyone in Switzerland is a policeman. Ah, didn't realise it was an all-postal vote.

Is this the most right wing canton? That's a good question that Georg Ebner will be best-placed to answer. But broadly speaking, the most right-wing cantons tend to be the Old Confederacy Catholic cantons plus Ticino. Although from personal experience, rural Zurich is pretty damn right-wing.

My impression was the same too.

Is this the most right wing canton? It's SVP's best canton, but that's partly meaningless, as CVP is here and there quite conservative, too. More meaningful are the federal referenda, where Schwyz is usually second behind CH's smallest (by population) canton Appenzell-Innerrhoden. Important to know for Schwyz is, that it is consisting of 2 parts: The traditional inneralpine/southern part, which is not so wealthy and recently quite open for leftier economics, and the rich Zurich-SubUrbers in the outer/northern part: TaxEvasionists, who are rightliberal Thatcherites, but not christian-conservative farmer-folk. Similar to GOP in the SouthernStates SVP benefitted from the latter a lot to come into the canton, but is more and more abandoned by them.

Unless you've been there, it is hard to describe how fabulously wealthy the North of Schwyz is. It is, I think, the second most expensive patch of real estate in Switzerland. The most expensive bit is the "Gold Coast" on the opposite side of Lake Zurich. I think Roger Federer lives in northern Schwyz, although he was rumoured to be escaping to Rapperswil, which in typical Swiss fashion is also nearby but is the canton of Sankt - Gallen instead.
Anyway, you can smell the money.

The left 2020-numbers are without distributing the votes of joint lists, on the right they are given to SPS & GPS.

In Geneva-city's Government some expected the Liberals (PLR/FDP) to lose the only nonRedGreen-minister because of the calamities around a prominent PLR-minister in the cantonal cabinet - but they survived: www.ge.ch/elections/20200315/CAMA/Geneve/Sorry - a misunderstanding: I saw 5 in a row and expected them to be elected; in fact none of them is so far. Electoral FreshFlesh: www.ge.ch/elections/20200405/CAMA/Geneve/#resultats_2100PDC/CVP held its seat, while a - once more - split FarLeft lost it. PLR/FDP was still hurt by the affair around cantonal minister Maudet. The MCG-candidate, Bathassat, was formerly a scandal-plagued HealthMinister - for PDC!

Local elections in canton Luzern were happening weeks ago. Until today counting was permitted. Results: www.vlg.ch/index.php?id=186In the capital Luzern ("the world's cleanest town") the government will probably consist of SPS, GPS, GreenLiberals, CVP, FDP. Mayor ("CityPresident"), a largely ceremonial function, will be a socialist.

EpiLogue to Lucerne: There too RedGreen (plus GreenLiberals) gained not only in the proper "city" (new 15/30 councillors), but also in the more urbanized of the SubUrbs (a la Horw). A trend already detected around Basel, Zurich and Winterthur. Caused according to some ObServers by young families moving outside because they cannot efford the high FlatRents in the cities. Probably also, as the SubUrbers aren't so righty any longer as they were in the Reagan/Thatcher-era.

Tomorrow 2/7 Ministers of canton Sankt Gallen will be elected. Running are SVP, FDP, SPS. Traditionally SVP would have lost in such a scenario, but their moderate candidate failed in the first round only narrowly. The SPS-woman can expect female support, making the FDP-man the UnderDog (despite being endorsed by CVP [but CVP's 2 ministers were reelected before, making it doubtful, that many of its voters will turn out tomorrrow]). Being an electoral candidate can be wonderful sometimes:

74/77 municipalities are counted and FDP and SVP are ahead. But the capital - which reported a stronger TurnOut due to general postal voting - could still turn it to FDP and SPS.

Apparently the FDP-candidate increased his share of votes compared to round 1 especially in the more urban areas, while the SPS-woman gained more on the land.

In canton Schwyz the RunOff ended in a clear and expected victory for the CVP-candidate, who had missed the quorum in the first round only narrowly. He defended the second minister-position of CVP with 57% against the SPS-challenger (35%) with a low TurnOut of 30% (only postal ones were possible). The composition of government remains 3 SVP, 2 FDP, 2 CVP.
It's hard to detect a general trend in the local elections held yesterday, too.

In Winterthur, the second-biggest town of canton Zurich, the 7 ministers were elected on SunDay. FDP lost 1 seat to the GreenLiberals. New distribution: 3 SPS, 1 GPS, 1 GLP; 1 FDP, 1 SVP.
In the canton (and in its capital) Schaffhausen the governments will be decided next SunDay. In both entities 4 incumbents are likely to be reelected, but SPS, FDP, SVP will fight for the remaining seat (in the canton a SVP-minister stepped down, in the town one from farleft AL [which won't try to defend it]). SeatShare so far:
Canton: 2 SVP, 2 FDP, 1 SPS Capital: 2 SPS, 1 FDP, 1 SVP, 1 AL
In the canton one the FDP-ministers is also not safe (and the second SPS-contender could replace the party's incumbent).
