Wollaton West is confirmed as a Labour gain from the Conservatives. Pretty awful week for the Tories.

Wollaton West is confirmed as a Labour gain from the Conservatives. Pretty awful week for the Tories. Given Wollaton West's demographics and Labour's build-up in the ward prior to the by-election that particular Conservative loss was bound to happen anyway, unlike the other 4 Conservative losses.

Given the palaver of getting the SoPN we might have to crowdfund andrewteale a bus ride to photograph the notice pinned outside the Town Hall.

Would be nice to have the numbers from Bolton, though ... we were told about the rather poor record of Bolton electoral services earlier, weren't we - and by the looks of it the council as a whole. FWIW I couldn’t even find a search facility on their website, so when I got a pop-up asking me if I’d rate my experience using the website I took them up on their offer, and within 24 hours had an email with the SoPN and a comment that the “concerns you raised” had been passed to their web team.

Total votes cast in the 8 by-elections: 14,407. Parliamentary electorate in 2017 was 49,156, so a turnout of around 29% or a bit lower with more voters on the local election roll.

So 6 seats out of 8 changing hands was not what anybody predicted (as far as I know-but then I had managed to miss predicting all 6 of those). And the sheer awfulness of Bolton council taking just a bit of gloss off what otherwise would have been an excellent night for Labour. But really the night belonged to None of the Above.
