Liam Byrne has said he plans to step down as an MP if Birmingham votes yes in the Mayoral referendum. Local labour sources predict a summer by election in Hodge Hill.

I wonder if both Gisela and Liam will stand down as MPs to fight for the Mayor"? Two by elections but only one Mayor.

I think they only have to stand down if they are selected as the Labour candidate for the Mayor's position, assuming the Mayoralty is voted in. The most interesting bit of any Hodge Hill by-election will be the Labour selection, which will be very interesting.

Who would you choose for the possibly soon to be doomed Hodge Hill? Well, I understand one councillor feels that he has been promised it and another feels he should get it. Personally, I would regard either of them as a very bad buy for the electorate of Hodge Hill. Personally, if I were Labour, I would choose the current Lord Mayor, but I regard Anita as a friend. However, given the demographics of the seat, the candidate is more likely to be Asian, i'd skip a generation and go for the newly elected Cllr for Hodge Hill - Majid Mahmood, he's bright, a good questioner and a good communicator.
