You're right and that is what I had intended to write.

Incidentally the gap on 5 April is because that is Maundy Thursday, no longer a dies non since the Electoral Administration Act 2006, but evidently still not liked as a polling date.

Audrey Oaten, Lib Dem County Councillor for Meriden Tudor Division of Herts CC (Watford District) has resigned.

Mother of Mark and wife of Cyril - legendary teacher at my alma mater.
Do you know a reason for her resignation? She first won this seat in a by-eleciton herself in what had been a safeish Labour seat. A by-election here would be interesting although the LDs would be clear favourites

It will make for an interesting byelection. The seat was held by Vince Muspratt, Labour leader in Watford until the Mayoral election in 2002.

2001: Lab 2,692, C 1,999, L Dem 968, Ind 245, GP 196.

November 2002: L Dem 1,413, Lab 817, C 472, GP 70.

2005: L Dem 2,468, Lab 1,922, C 1,641, GP 275.

In 2011 the two wards combined voted L Dem 1,772, Lab 1,045, C 953, GP 229, UKIP 153 (fought one ward out of 2).

Vince Muspratt lol.. I'd almost forgotten about him. He engineered the Watford Mayoral referendum assuming he would then win the first election to the post - of course he got hammered.
I think he went off to live in North Norfolk or something after that and has never been heard of since

A midweek update on vacancies.

Billy Jones, a Labour councillor on Swansea City Council representing Townhill division, died on Thursday 8 March. This is a second new vacancy on the council; the first was caused by the resignation in February of Alan Jopling, an Independent councillor representing Penyrheol division. Both terms were due to end in May so the ex-councillors will not be replaced in byelections. (There is a third vacancy, in Castle division, which is on the above list)

Robin King, a Labour councillor on Redditch Borough Council representing Church Hill ward, died on Saturday.

Dave Ledbetter, a Labour councillor on Halton Borough Council representing Riverside ward, also died on Saturday. His seat is covered by the six month rule so there will be no byelection.

As noted above Audrey Oaten, a Liberal Democrat councillor on Hertfordshire County Council representing Meriden Tudor division, has resigned.

Not a vacancy but worthy of note is that there is a leadership challenge in the Royal Borough of Greenwich to Chris Roberts, who has led the council since May 2000. John Fahy (cabinet member for culture) is challenging Chris Roberts while Dick Quibell is challenging deputy leader Peter Brooks.

My source at County Hall tells me it is for personal reasons, which is the line being reported in the Watford on line newspapers.

Only found out about this new forum on Britain Votes last night - many thanks to those who have put in the work to set it up.

One new vacancy in my neck of the woods - Chichester DC, Plaistow Ward following the resignation of Linda Westmore. This will be the third by-election in this ward since February 2009, in addition to the scheduled elections in 2011. If contested, the election will be on April 19th.

Two Conservative councillors on Bolton MBC have resigned , Paul and Diana Bradley both members for Bradshaw ward have quit which will presumably mean a triple election in this ward in May .

John Gallagher , Labour councillor for Sandhill ward on Sunderland MBC has sadly died .

Graham Trave , Conservative councillor for Coaley and Uley ward on Stroud DC has resigned . 6 month rule does not apply but the byelection will be held on May 3rd .

Judith Beckman , Labour coiuncillor for Barnhill ward on Brent LBC has resigned , byelection will be on May 3rd .
Brendan Jameson , LD councillor for Kendal Strickland and Fell on Cumbria CC and councillor for Kendal Fell on South Lakeland DC also leader of the council has sadly died .

I wonder if the Conservatives could sneak a gain in Barnhill. Used to be a very safe Conservative ward but boundary changes brought in the Chalk Hill estate. Even so it stayed Conservative until 2010 when the general election turnout brought out hordes of Labour voters. On a much lower turnout, could be close

Actually theres a block of social housing in the north of the ward as well which came in from the abolished Kingsbury ward. The old Barnhill had no social housing - the new one has quite a lot
