Rotherham Politics may be a place for news on this by-election, if you can read past the invective. According to that site, the Tory candidate is Jackie Whiteley (a familiar name in Yorkshire by-elections -- she was the Tory candidate in Bradford West) and the UKIP candidate is one Caven Vines. Both of them stood in this seat in 2010. As far as I understand it UKIP haven't yet selected. But I could be wrong.. In an answer to doktorb on the website, they claim "confidential sources" re the UKIP name. That might explain the Tory name too, or they might just be wrong, or jumping to conclusions from something someone told them. They also now have Ralph Dyson standing for TUSC, but I can't yet find an independent source for that one either.

Apart from that website, there’s no source anywhere suggesting the Conservatives have selected either and picking a candidate who fought a Bratfud seat eight months ago doesn't sound best practice anyway. Sounds wishful thinking. Isn't she the candidate in the Wharfedale Ward by-election next week as well?

Yes, she must be going for Lord Sutch's record!

George Galloway on Twitter this afternoon: Nowt in the usual places. Socialist Unity too busy doing a hagiography of the new Chinese leadership. I suspect it may be SIster Yvonne.

Sister Yvonne's name has been mentioned elsewhere, so you may well be correct on that. How she will play here is going to be amusing. Bring in the popcorn.

The latest candidate reported by Rotherham Politics is Omar Mehban, I think the same person who stood as for the OMRLP in Boston Castle ward in May, but now he's turned serious and is standing as an Independent...

I can confirm that the UKIP candidate has not yet been selected. ... which makes sense given Rotherham Politics saying that their name comes from "confidential sources". The question, I suppose, is whether their sources will turn out to be right; I doubt it, at least in the case of the Tory, given Wharfedale.

So the electors of Rotherham get to see Stockholm Syndrome first hand.
