Isn't there an "r" in Darlek? Otherwise it just sounds like a dish from the subcontinent? Pronouncing Dalek as if there were an 'r' in it – as my aunt does – can be an amusing affectation. Spelling it with one, on the other hand, is just plain ignorant and moronic. Incidentally 'dàlek' is a Serbo-Croat word meaning 'far' or 'distant', but Terry Nation has always claimed that he had no idea of this when he came up with the name for the race. It's not as if he could've just Googled it back in the 1960s! Down my way we not only pronounce an "r" but spell it as well.... arrrrrrr!
Never heard the snippet about the Serb-Croat dalek, repeats must go down really well in Zagreb and Belgrade

When did she join Labour? She'll be only just inside the two year limit I think they have surely?
The rule that Tony Blair broke a few times admittedly.

Not everyone says it that way, but my aunt is from Bristol so it's certainly not just a northern thing either. On topic: I wonder what a Welsh council's 'Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside' is supposed to have responsibility for?

Foggy's mum probably adds a degree of rhoticity. Many Plymothians do the same.

I’m searching Twitter now. Apparently 150 people attended the hustings.
Also turns out that Plaid Cymru have chosen Wrexham councillor Carrie Harper.

People that only turn up when there’s real power at stake frustrate me. That's just silly. He was active in the party and his Dad died in tragic circumstances. He wants to continue his good work. How can you complain about a young local candidate born and brought up in Connah's Quay selected on first ballot by a clear majority?

No UKIP standing now then.
They got 17.4% in 2016.

He is standing for Alyn and Deeside. I know, let's have a smooth talking barrister from London parachuted in instead. Wouldn't want any nasty working class people with rough accents now, would we? And young too...fine for them to vote for us, but let's have candidates with established middle class careers....wouldnt want anything to change, after all

That's the point, the parachuted barristers from London are the masters of repeating the name of the constituency around 100 times immediately after being selected. Because that's the only thing they know. And if you are Chris Bryant, you can manage to randomly name the Rhondda in every occasion you open your month for the rest of your life but this requires extra skills.
