The SPÖ is hardly hit these weeks. Now it was revealed, that their arrested exChiefCampaigner T.Silberstein and one of exPM Gusenbauer's campaigners were against EarlyElections, because PM Kern as a NewComer in politics is "naive", ChiefCampaigner Niedermühlbacher (sent from Vienna's mayor Häupl) "lacks any knowledge of campaigning", the SPÖ-ministers act too unsystematically aso. And it continues: As was leaked, one of Kern's GhostWriters wrote him: "Now only one counts: Train, train, train, train!" |

Landtage are indeed below the radar of the public - too powerless. In Austria, certainly (it is arguably not a proper federation), but I was referring to the Bavarian Landtag which most certainly does not fly under the radar! The bavarian LandTag is quite boring, indeed. But don't forget, that - like FC Bayern München ("FC Hollywood") - the CSU itself has delivered to its spectators an impressive series of scandals and InFightings (presently Seehofer against FinanceMinister Söder)... SPÖ's PartySecretary and ChiefCampaigner - deriving from the viennese (antiFPÖ) SPÖ - stepped down, because at least 1 person of his staff was involved in running an antiKurz-HomePage, which (ab)used far-right propaganda in order to be seen as a FPÖ-site.

Another problem emerging for SPÖ will be, that the RightWing (Burgenland and "their" DefenseMinister Doskozil plus the Faymann&Ludwig-faction in Vienna) wants to stay in government under all circumstances.
Doskozil can work together with Kurz in a better way than with his PartyFriend Kern (concerning MassImmigration).

Kern participated last year - when he was already Chancellor - at a company of his wife in Israel, partly financed by a Israelian-Georgian billionaire, who is accused of having bribed Israel's exEnergyMinister...

YesterDay (=SunDay) a small private channel ("Puls4") broadcast duels of Kurz-Kern, then Kurz-Strache.
Incumbent Kern attacked aggressively ("Strache II"), a - not too shameful - attempt to turn round the responsibility for TalSilberstein's DirtyCampaigning. Might galvanize HardCore-SPÖ-supporters (and some BlueCollar-FPÖ-men), but displease most others.
OGM made a quick ExitPoll (n=500) with Kurz by 47:38 as being more convincing in general (except taxes&economy). If SPÖ cannot place a bomb this week, the third place won't be unlikely (the latest polls deliver mixed results on that).
Kurz-Strache was quite friendly - CoalitionPartners in spe... OGM found Strache ahead (especially on immigration 60:24, also on reformism), a survey among over 1.000 "Kurier"-readers had Kurz 2:1 victorious (in both duels) though.
Kurz played macronique by proclaiming a competition ÖVP-vs.-FPÖ for first place.

This - final - week public broadcaster ORF2 is going to show their duets of the 3 main contenders (Mo/Tu/We) and a big round on ThursDay, always 20.15 MET, so at PrimeTime.
Ending an endless SoapOpera with a melo-dramatic climax immediately before the happy (?) end.

Perhaps the reason for the stability of the polls since Kurz took over his party is not herding, but that the electorate is exhausted: ~70 TV-debates (plus those in NewsPapers), SnapElections accorded already last spring, permanent polemics inside SPÖVP since Kern started, electoral campaigns since the PresidentialElection 2016 (with its 3 rounds)...

www.oe24.at (= SemiTabloid "Österreich") is one of those SPÖ-financed tabloids, that turned towards ÖVP&FPÖ recently. Its pollster has had a bias towards FPÖ, too, already detected in the PresidentialElections 2016. As written earlier, the pollsters aren't sure, whether SPÖ or FPÖ are on SecondPlace. OGM - generally the best company - polled SPÖ slightly ahead of FPÖ last weekend (~27:25), surprisingly finding no change despite all SPÖ-scandals.
