The SPÖ presented - after over 1 year of preparation - its "CriteriaCatalogue" for future coslitions. As expected a blahblah ("AntiFascism", proAustria, proEU aso.), repudiated by the pseudo-radical PartyYouth. More important is, that 7 demands are put up. Especially a HereditaryTax (for 1 million plus) - although SPÖ had once promised Mitterlehner/ÖVP to bury it in exchange for certain parcels - will be hard for ÖVP (also FPÖ). And PartyMembers can opt for/against any agreement (with either FPÖ or ÖVP) after the election.

Mrs.Griss - the Independent running for president last year - will not candidate for ÖVP. Perhaps for NEOS, what would keep those certainly in parliament.

FPÖ ruled out any InheritanceTax, what might be decisive, because they will be the KingMakers: A continued SPÖVP (or ÖVP&SPÖ) will be quite impossible, a SeatMajority with GREENS&NEOS probably not given, the will of FPÖ to collapse once again in government is not too high aso.

No major movements are detected in the OpinionPolls.
TeamStronach won't candidate.
The Greens are damaged, because their (former) YouthOrganization supports KPÖ and a prominent leftpopulist deputy didn't get a place on their list anymore.

- Yesterday SPÖ voted with GREENS and FPÖ for more money for the universities.
- A proposal of SPÖ+GREENS+NEOS for a "HomoMarriage" - CoupleTreaties (providing quasi all rights) are already possible - failed.
- "DementiaTax" is going to be abolished.
So all pledges to avoid wasting money before DisSolution were worthless (as expected).

Is it going to be possible to form any sort of workable government?

Is it going to be possible to form any sort of workable government? After the election a coalition will be formed, probably ÖVP&FPÖ, perhaps SPÖ&FPÖ, and - unlikely, but if FPÖ rejects to participate - a "new" GrandCoalition. Presently SPÖVP have been working together in general quite smoothly (obviously in order to appeal to dissatisfied voters) and in 2 weeks the parliament will be dissolved anyway, with a CareTaker-government remaining.

The Greens are damaged, because ... a prominent leftpopulist deputy didn't get a place on their list anymore. This MP - Peter Pilz, 40 years ago like VanDerBellen a ~Trotzkist, expelled from the SPÖ-students (by M.Häupl, the Vienna-mayor), in parliament (for 30 years) focussing on investigations and scandals (much noise and few proves), critical of Islam/Erdogan, advocating a left populism - intends to stand! His (and Kern's?) dream is probably to make ÖVP&FPÖ impossible by gaining enough proletarianFPÖ/Non/Protest/AntiCorruption-voters for SPÖ&GREENS&NEOS&Pilz. If KPÖ, GreenYouth and other LeftExtremists were smart, they'd assemble behind this prominent political figure.

According to the semiTabloid "Kurier" the Independent PresidentialCandidate Griss (19%) will run for NEOS, if she doesn't have to participate in their primaries and receives a "WildCard" instead. Perhaps crucial for the survival of NEOS.

Either I missed some (lack of) nuances in its style, or it's gone downhill over the past 5 years.

The "Kurier" has always been a SemiTabloid, has even campaigned on being "the most popular quality-daily and the highest quality tabloid" a decade ago. And like all austrian NewsPapers it's very thin compared to german or British CounterParts. But i assume, that You were just joking?

Oh, I don't know about it being bad news. I'd say the left (SPÖ + Greens) would be delighted with a combined score of 41% right about now. The Kurier a semi-tabloid? And like all austrian NewsPapers it's very thin compared to german or British CounterParts. But i assume, that You were just joking? Not really. I was briefly in the Tyrol and Vorarlberg a decade ago, but must have missed that promotional campaign (it was over 4 years later that I was in a position to subscribe). I did notice that it certainly is thinner than German newspapers, though... but as you say, that's common to all Austrian dailies, even the quality ones. I suppose it depends whether you measure tabloid status on its dimensions, or on the depth of its content. It was the perfect length for a morning briefing for me, probably serving a similar function to what the i has since turned into over here. Perhaps I was an admirer of 'semi-tabloids' all along and just didn't know it!

Ah yes. Well there is the KPO I suppose I almost mentioned them but they are, fortunately, not particularly relevant these days at the federal level. They certainly won't win any seats in October.

If they run together not only with the YOUNG-GREENS, but also with GREENS-defector P.Pilz they might have their ComeBack. The voters would exist!

And it's public: NEOS go along with Mrs.Griss, the candidate for president last year. Perhaps enabling their survival.
