Here is some background to the by-election for Colnbook with Poyle Parish Council in the unitary Borough of Slough.
Colnbrook with Poyle Parish Council comprises 12 members and is unwarded.
The election on 3 May 2007 was uncontested, but I do not have the Statement of Persons Nominated.
23 candidates stood for the 12 seats in the election on 5 May 2011, every one of them as an Independent. The result was: Elected – Independent 679/583/571/509/489/452/446/442/436/399/394/372 Not Elected – Independent 356/350/337/326/326/321/298/292/286/280/269
The by-election on 15 November 2012 is caused by the resignation of Mike Nye (Ind) amid claims of ‘personal attacks’ by local website Colnbrook Views. He subsequently apologised to the website operators. Mike Nye polled 446 votes in 2011.
The five candidates on 15 November are No Description (2), Lab, UKIP and a non-political description.

The vacancy seems to be the Conservative seat. in 2011 Conservative candidate was elected quite a way behind independant David Nettleton and ahead of Green and then Labour in last two places. Three-way contest between Con-Grn-Lab and a lot will depend on how the independant vote breaks.

Swindon Borough Council - Blunsdon & Highworth
The sad death of Doreen Dart (C) meant the council balance is: Con 28 Lab 24 LD 4
The Conservatives are holding power on the Mayor's casting vote
It will be a straight fight between C & L both of whom are well known in Highworth. L is Deputy Mayor (who came top of the L at the all outs) & C ex mayor (IIRC) LDs not standing (although the 'no description' is nominated by a well know LD who, I am very surprised, did not notice this) UKIP chose a candidate from about as far away from the ward within the Borough as possible, although the PCC candidate is a former C & UKIP councillor in Highworth so surprised did not try & double up Green candidate stood in May & did manage to beat the LD candiate
Next Full Council is Nov 8th; so Rod Bluh will have at least 1 more meeting as leader

The Swindon Advertiser is referring to Cath Smith as a Liberal Democrat. It looks as if she forgot to fill in the description on her nomination paper, rather than wishing to stand as a No Description candidate.
Swindon Lad - will you let us know if the Lib Dems are actively campaigning for Cath Smith?

Can mean that the officer responsible for authorising the party description was unavailable at the time the nomination paper was filled.

Cath Smith was a LD candidate in Old Town & 2011 in Parks - IIRC she's the daughter of Cllr Stan Pajak who is the LD group leader
I don't know who their DNO in Swindon is (was, after this) would have thought that Jenny Shorten would have been as she will know the rules in side out
I only know 2 times this has happened in Swindon, both in Highworth. The Conservatives forgot to put the description on for the slate (except 1) in a town council election in 2011 (will come back to this election later)
For a couple of reasons I am unable to help in Highworth as much as normal & live miles away & so can't say who is active
In the 2011 town elections the main 2 candidates contested;
BEAUMONT, Phillip Henry Raymond The Labour Party Candidate 907 Elected WEISINGER, Steven Mark (no description) 1288 Elected (topped the poll)
Highworth is the significant majority of the ward (can't find the electoral nos now); Blunsdon was a safe C seat (partially due to the late Cllr Dart) except in 1994 when the LDs took in very unexpectedly
