Quite, I was there today, just heading back, will be there tomorrow. Barbara Fielding-Racists Freepost is hilarious, she's an INDEPENDANT. There is very little sign of Dr Eddie Nuttalls and his merry band out today (or I was told since about Tuesday). We had over 60 helpers out today. Uploading Barbara Fruitloop-Cuckoo leaflet to the forum would be a great service Yes please!

He currently has worse approval ratings than Corbyn with YouGov. I will repeat that, for the hard of understanding - WORSE. APPROVAL. RATINGS. THAN. CORBYN. What's your "clever" answer to that? But Blair isn't the leader of the Labour Party, Corbyn is. Blair's already done that and gave your lot 3 very big wins. To carry out Tory policies! His Government was well to the Right of the pre-Thatcher Tory Governments of the 20th century extending back as far as Baldwin and Chamberlain.

His Government was well to the Right of the pre-Thatcher Tory Governments of the 20th century extending back as far as Baldwin and Chamberlain. Blair carried out reforms in his first 6 years in office that were way to the left of what any Conservative government of the time would've dared to do, and like DW I now realise that I probably unjustly disliked him at the time. However, in late 2002 he lost the plot on foreign policy and did the same in terms of his domestic agenda about a year later. At that point he didn't appear to be doing anything substantially different from what a Tory PM would have done, and thus allowed himself to be attacked from the left by Charles Kennedy (even though there was still one wing of the Lib Dems that wasn't really to the left of Blair in most areas). Anyhow, as others have said, that's basically ancient history in terms of relevance to the outcome of this by-election.

Blair's electoral victories are barely more relevant to politics NOW than Attlee's or Wilson's. or, to look at it another way they are all relevant as we can learn something from all of them. Just not everything.

Guilty of something thats not a crime. The Nazi leaders pleaded 'Not Guilty'! Personally I would happily see Blair suffer the fate of Bin Laden - including being dumped at sea. If he floated would that prove he was a witch?

In any event only 4-5% of the electorate are of Pakistani origin. My excursions have taken me to a surprisingly large number of new-build (within last 10 years) property. The media portray the constituency as essentially embittered, elderly former miners / ceramicists living in terraced housing. It's not like that. Try Oliver Road on google streetview ...

why are people acting as if stoke is bradford what the actual f uck The most Pakistani-populated section of Stoke isn't even in the seat. Parts of Shelton can look a bit like that, but a close look at the register will soon reveal the truth. And no, we are campaigning everywhere, although there obviously is a priority list of which wards get literature and canvass first. I'm sure every party has those.

How does one evolve Stokies? Is there an oatier lifeform? No one could complain about MOAR oatcakes. The ones I had with bacon and cheese for second breakfast were excellent.

There's a boat in the canal towards the football ground that serves very good ones with healthy toppings- bacon and cheese or sausage and cheese.

I hated Blair deeply, and probably unfairly. Loathing of him brought me into politics. I think I've spent enough time fighting against the man to say that I feel that there is a modern-day tendency amongst parts of the Left to attack him, so as to show ones virtue. Despite my annoyance with him (today and more generally) I take no pleasure in how things have turned out. It is the stuff of genuine tragedy. Less than two decades ago, he really did have it all...... I seem to remember Cherie reportedly saying to him on the flight back from Sedgefield to London after the election: "don't cock this up" - or words to that effect.
