NBC have shown footage of anarchists smashing up the Democratic Party of Oregon HQ in Portland, with "F***k Biden" on it in big letters.

Well, now I am confused about something else. It had never occurred to me to pronounce her name in any other way than that which it transpires is the correct way, until the furore about the pronunciation began, causing me to wonder, then I came across a piece that quoted her pronouncing it "comma-la" It's not a name I had come across before, but the pronunciation seemed obvious, and it turns out, is obvious. No idea why this was ever a story. I think it's down to your accent. Scots put stress on the first syllable and have rhotic accents which fits the right pronunciation whereas many of us down south don't.

Definitely your standard anarchist types. They probably don't much like Biden and I bet they hate "top cop" Harris. Edit: I see you've found the pictures and made the same conclusion!

Edit: I see you've found the pictures and made the same conclusion! You mean the Class War types? Standard anarchists don't smash up buildings. They just follow a political creed which rejects the liberal democratic model of governance.

Just a little thought as I ruminate about todays events. Joe Biden is the 46th President of the United States. He is my personal 15th POTUS, just about a third of all of them have happened in my lifetime. American history is a very short timespan, isn't it? Yes, I was projecting ahead and realised I'm highly likely to be alive to see the 50th President. You must be younger than me, Biden's my 16th. (wow!)
Wait a mo.... inauguation day in January. obbly 'ell! 17th!Are you sure that's right? My first is FDR and he covers my first six years - I do remember him but it's not a very "political" memory - the first President I have contemporary political views on was Truman (and a bit mixed views I might say). I was also thinking you need to be quite a bit older than me to remember Hoover - realistically at least 90 I'd say. And to remember 17 - I think that takes you back to Coolidge, and that would indeed be wow! Either you are a great deal older than I realised, or you are mistaken somewhere in your arithmetic- I wondered whether you were counting terms rather than presidents so 2 term presidents were being counted twice?

Johnson last 14 days Nixon Ford Carter Regan Bush Clinton Bush Obama Trump Biden I guess your memories of LBJ at least are unlikely to amount to much! Talking of false counting, the Americans are pretty ropy at that too , as of course there have actually only ever been 45 presidents because they failed to spot Cleveland coming up twice. I always think of Grover Cleveland as being like the guy at the back of the school photo who shifts while the camera is rolling and gets in twice- always could be done with those old fashioned cameras which slowly swept around the assembled tiers. So if I have lived with 15 presidents it is exactly a third of them.

Cleveland was the (n)th and the (n+2)th President.

Eisenhower was president when I was born. Now that was a different Republican party. The realignment of the South was to come. The (incomplete) enfranchisement of people of colour in the South. The near elimination of moderates in both camps was quite some way away. An apparently stable two-party system conceals really dramatic shifts over less than a lifetime.

Born in 1997 so Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden. I'd add a few weeks of Bush -father- (after he lost) and that's my list.

Well, you've probably known 11 out of 25 french présidents de la République. And France's history is still long PS: or maybe 12 if you've been around for Albert Lebrun
