Hunter Biden report out - 2 items jump out straight away.. Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the wife of the former mayor of Moscow.and something for the tabloids... Hunter Biden paid nonresident women who were nationals of Russia or other Eastern European countries and who appear to be linked to an “Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.”
ReportSeriously, what has this got to do with Joe Biden? Nobody blames Mark Drakeford for his son. I must say, though, there is something particularly tasteless at the rapid investigation of somebody to harm his father, who has buried two of his children, one son fairly recently. It is vile.

Hmm - Joe Biden VP of the USA, At the same time his son gets jobs he is not qualified for from foreign companies and transfers of millions of dollars into his account. I'd suggest that is rather naive question. Would you be asking the same question if it were Donald Trump Jr who had got $3.5 million from some woman in Russia?

Thats a bit rich when the Dems are suggesting that the only outcome of the election that doesnt lead to violence is a Biden victory... you cant have it both ways..

Observing that unrest is unlikely under an administration which has overseen sustained unrest does not contradict suggesting that the administration also aspires to be authoritarian. Plenty of regimes have been through a period like this.

Those two risks (post-election violence and Trump using his powers to prevent a decisive outcome against him) aren't mutually exclusive. There is no reason why they can't both be true (although I personally think there'll be violence regardless of who wins, and likely more if Biden wins).

I agree with the first part but not with the second - considering that we have had a whole summer of violence from the progressive Left I dont see there being any chance of a peaceful process if Trump wins. FWIW my family in Texas are also expecting violence - as such they are stocking up on ammunition (they already have enough guns for a small army).

My wife's voting papers finally arrived this morning!
Huge great double-sided A3 size voting sheet!
17 choices to make!
No wonder there are so many disputes/errors in their ballots; it took me about 20 minutes just to read through the whole thing!

"Trump campaign is discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority. With a justification based on claims of rampant fraud, Trump would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly." www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/11/what-if-trump-refuses-concede/616424/

I guess it will all disappear into the ether and be a footnote in the history books. If not, Lord help us.

It's a very well researched and thorough piece (as always when written by Barton Gellman).

I'm coming out of hiding because I'm bored (and lonely) in lockdown. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump scrapes wins in Arizona and Florida. Biden's numbers with Hispanics haven't been great this year compared to Clinton's. 51-47% in Florida would be Bush 2004 numbers in that state. Impressive if Trump pulls it off. Isn't this the first poll to show Trump leading in Arizona for ages? Which may mean something significant, or alternately "obvious outlier". Good to see you back, don't disappear again until you have passed 7k posts

If current polls hold, the endgame of the Trump presidency will be that the Republican Party makes gains with non-white voters and loses little to no ground with the young, but comfortably loses the election due to massive losses with white and elderly voters. Will any part of The Discourse survive?

Good to see you back, don't disappear again until you have passed 7k posts It is the first to show Trump leading, though in just a very quick look at 538’s list of Arizona polls I’ve found five dead heats and three in which Biden led by one. RCP however, which includes some polls 538 doesn’t has a Trafalgar poll from August with Trump +1. It’s probably worth reiterating what we said about the WaPo/ABC News poll of Minnesota last week showing a double digit Biden lead; they tend to get the end result right but because of their small sample sizes there’s usually a lot of movement en-route, with some very big outliers included.
