Three Rivers DC Gade ValleyDavid BENNETT (UK Independence Party (UKIP)) Roberta CURRAN (The Green Party) Alex MICHAELS (Liberal Democrats) Bruce PROCHNIK (Labour Party) Dee WARD (The Conservative Party candidate) It's worth noting, perhaps, that Gade Valley has a peculiar shape, with an extremely tight "girdle" round the middle (near Kings Langley station). The southern portion of the ward is in Watford constituency, the northern part in St. Albans constituency. The UKIP candidate has stood in local elections in Three Rivers and Abbots Langley for the last few years. The Greens are a recent addition to the election 'scene' here, having contested no seats in Three Rivers in 2016. The Lib Dem candidate is a local parish councillor (and currently chairman of Abbots Langley PC). Bruce Prochnik was, some time ago, a councillor in Bedfordshire - lovers of musicals might remember him in the role of Oliver, being a member of the original Broadway cast back in 1963. He contested the ward in 2016. The Conservative candidate, Dee Ward, also was a candidate in Gade Valley last time. It's probably fair to say that the Liberal Democrats are favourites here, with the Conservatives likely to be runners-up. The real question is who will finish third.

Hilarious video from Sunderland:
It's a Labour car with speaker driving around saying: "Only Labour can defend your services in Sunderland Only Labour will defend the National Health Service Don't believe lies told by the Liberal Democrats They will say anything to get your vote."

That's bizarre considering we came a very distant fourth last time...

That car seems suspiciously free from any party identification.
Fact: It's not unknown for the Lib Dems to go round in speaker cars pretending to be from other parties.

I heard a loudhailer a few minutes ago so I assume it's them again. Labour knocking every door. UKIP loudhailer as well. On the Sunderland Labour Facebook page "Ukip are now for lowing the Labour Car with its loud speaker, leaving us to knock doors in peace." Clearly should be "following" not "lowing"

Fwiw a Lib Dem from the area said to me they've been working the ward for three months and are expecting a notable swing. Don't know whether to believe that - could be misconceived perceptions on the ground given they've been nowhere historically, but, yknow

I've been to help the UKIP Sunderland lot with a group from UKIP Hartlepool. We've ran a pretty decent campaign here, but it's nothing compared to the Hartlepool operation we can put out.

It looks as though the only nerve that has been hit is your own.

It has been raining most of the day in Gade Valley, and snowing gently since about 5 pm. I haven't participated in the campaign, but I would imagine that a lot of on-the-day voters may well be put off going to the polling station. Don't expect a high turnout.

Does anybody sensible with knowledge of electioneering (i.e. people on here) think loudspeaker cars serve any purpose?
