Not sure whether the winner got 20,502, 20,510, 20,512 or 20,525. Noise from the supporters made it difficult to hear.

Biggest own goal in the history of British politics. There have been some dubious decisions on calling general elections that rank well ahead of this. Yesterday I was at a talk on politics between the wars and Baldwin calling a General Election in 1923 was a rather bad call.

I heard the Lib Dem total as 20,525. Yet again the stupid R.O. didn't announce it properly, but if the discrepancy was 0 then it would have been 20,516. 20,525 would mean a discrepancy of +9. The BBC says 20,510.

Yes, that makes perfect sense doesn't it Shirley you stupid cow. The results of a nationwide referendum should clearly be overridden on the basis of a by election in a single constituency. You can bet more Lib Dems, including Farron, will be saying the same thing. It'll probably start with Olney's acceptance speech. didn't quite

Not important but this means the number of female MPs will almost certainly hit 30% next week with the result of the Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election.

OK. 1872. Not a disaster. Perfectly possible to turn that at the next election when there will be no outside support and a proper full-blooded Conservative campaign. He lost much the same proportion as at Witney. In both cases party punished for causing an entirely unnecessary by-election. Be warned Blue Team. That is quite enough bloody nonsense with a small majority. Get a grip.
LDs now clearly identified as the new enemy for all of us. They are the party to stall and to resist. Don't let the momentum get under way or who knows what result for any of us? They are now clearly identified as the Anti-Brexit and even Anti-Democratic party, the party who wish to overturn Brexit by any means. We must use every opportunity to leaflet that to every household especially in those strongly Brexit seats.
New phase of the War.

And the Conservatives let him do it and stand as an independent thus cutting off the support of the full machine. What a Fred Karnos! They should have expelled him from the party and put up a bright young candidate to fight a strong Brexit and pro-Heathrow and right wing campaign with a view to him taking it back at the next GE. That would have destroyed the very pro-Zac local association and probably ensured that they lost the seat at the next general election as well. I suppose that may well be right, and perhaps it had to be played out that way to lance a near impossible boil? But whatever the constituency says he should not be allowed another go. I doubt he would want to but if he does he has to be told 'No'.

It is really strange to see people saying tgat Zac shot himself in the foot or made a disasterous decision. Fuck me....no wonder politicians are such liars. The public cry out for an MP that does what he says he will. Then, when they get one they vote him out. Zac promised to resign and fight a by election over Heathrow and he did. What a shame more MPs dont have his honesty and integrity Seems most right-wingers on this website prefers a Brexit cult to honesty, these days.

What a shame more MPs dont have his honesty and integrity I suggest where Zac's judgment can be faulted, knowing without the benefit of hindsight that the Heathrow decision was imminent, and that Richmond Park was almost certainly strongly pro-Remain, was to take such a high profile Brexit role and not follow, on the other side of the argument, Theresa May'a example of taking an initial position and then largely disappearing until it was all over. I also wonder if the style of his Mayoral campaign also worked against him.
