There's this Eighties gem of French cultural appropriation with a man in excessively shiny pants repeatedly saying "don't forget me, I'm Doctor B"

I've never heard or seen that before, but I've just had a PTSD-lite flashback to Joanna's in Southsea, in the early 80s. Basically an entire night's clubbing in one song.

You can now see why it was the French who came up with the Lambada. (I think cultural appropriation is a daft concept, but the story of the Lambada is an incredible story of brass neck, theft and Being French)

One question: should that be read as Doctor Bee, or as Doc Torb? I seem to read it both ways. It's actually a mistake. Back in the very very very early days of dial up Internet, I needed a name for MSN etc. As a Simpsons fan I chose Doktorb, from Dr. Nick's "1-800-Doctorb, the b stands for bargain". I made the mistake of using 'k', not 'c'. That mistake just stuck. So it's been Doktorb, as two syllables, and a misspelling going back to the early 2000s. I remember it even back from around 2007 on uk polling report. 17 happy years of reading your posts .

Someone who came to advertise their free psephological tool. It was mildly criticised and they didn't like it. Unfortunately, the tool is no longer available for download due to "offensive remarks made on the Vote UK Forum" by "cyber yobs" grarls.org/Pebble/index.htmlHi all, I always been interested in politics from an early age, but first got the psephology bug in the autumn of 2018, at the tender age of fourteen. I have the misfortune of knowing virtually every MP’s name off by heart much to the amazement of my mother and the bewilderment of my father

I get the feeling a few on this forum may agree😉

At the same age, so could I. I watched the proceedings live in the HOC and took extracts of Hansard and compiled and shared records. I have done none of those things for decades, and doubt I could now name and place more than 20% of MPs, if that?

I can name every MP & their constituency generally speaking but there is always a gap of perhaps 2-3 weeks after a general election when I haven't learnt all of the new ones. Very occasionally I can forget a by-election winner if they're a bit forgettable or low-profile, but always remember most Lib Dem by-election winners are called Sarah. It's the law. Welcome to the forum! EDIT : I have trouble avoiding confusing the 2 MPs with extremely similar names of the same party who represent Glasgow South and Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & East Kirkintilloch. As a Labour supporter, I hope that I no longer have to worry about that soon

I would recognize the name of most MPs off the top of my head, but knowing their constituency for certain is something I doubt I'd be able to do for more than a hundred.
There are certainly a few backbench MPs whose name doesn't ring a bell at all though.

I suppose so but I’m old enough to remember UK Polling Report, feasted on that for a few years. That peaked around 2008! Certainly died by 2015. The archives were always a good read - for the current seats most of the debate was in the early 2010s so it was always interesting to see some of the predictions that turned out to be wildly inaccurate (the long term trajectory of seats like Battersea was perhaps the biggest miss; these places haven't become ever more Conservative though it's understandably why people expected this). Sadly said archives have gone now - lasted until about 2022 as I recall.

Well after 2015 peeps could be forgiven for thinking that Battersea was almost unwinnable for Labour, but as you say things have not turned out that way.

yes that was a major issue in that constituency - as I acknowledged in my profile of it. Marsha De Cordova was very anti-Brexit & this is one of the major reasons why she won
