Ah, the joys of a recorded vote where most people are abstaining... Unless you have a cut off time, 6:30pm is a crazy time to start your council meetings.

So it is true then. Purgatory does exist. Southend was , of course, originally the south end of Prittlewell.

We know Labour did 76% in Middlesbrough and Greens did 25% in Witham.

We are people and the descriptive nouns should be regarded as gender neutral. In so far as the gender matters to some, then the Christian name will be a guide. Gender should not matter. Or indeed the first name, for those of us who were never baptised. *ahem* As some of you will be aware I am a militant atheist, but I still like the term Christian name and still use it.

I am not a fluent Welsh speaker...I am OK with the easier mutations (Bach-Fach, Cymru-Gymru) but I usually miss the nasal ones out... (C-Ngh, P-Ph). I don't think they make much difference.. The nasal mutation of P is Mh, but anyway While i am waiting for the Pensarn result.......I am from Penybont. I always say 'yn Penybont' and not 'Ym Mhenybont' or 'a Penybont' and not 'a Phenybont' I dont know if i am grammaticaly correct but i have never been misunderstood or had soneone correct me. Some mutations just seem unneccesay

Some mutations just seem unneccesay As a multi-linguist (dabbler but not fluent) I get the impression that modern colloquial Welsh is drifting away from the "proper" grammatical Welsh which is taught in books. For example, when Glyn Wise was in Big Brother 10 years ago, I noticed that on one occasion he said "fi caru ti" (I love you) which has the English grammatical construction, instead of "dw i'n dy garu di" which would be the correct form according to what I learnt from my book. It would be easy for young Welsh speakers to eschew use of awkward mutations and just not bother with them if the meaning is clear. It was a similar process (hundreds of years ago) which allowed English to dump the multiple case declensions of German or Anglo-Saxon.

My mother told me 'wi'n garu ti'....in school they taught me 'Rydw i'n dy garu ti'...and in the words of the song (ar lan y mor) ....'rwy'n dy garu ti'
But back on topic.....what happened to Pensarn?

Some mutations just seem unneccesay Just out of interest, do you think that it would help the survival of the Welsh language by ditching the mutations ( I'm not talking about the plaid cymru leadership) rather than the bullying, discrimination and legislation thats happening at present? It's a genuine enquiry as it strikes me that surely it would make Welsh much easier to learn, or are the mutations so totally integral that they can't be ditched?
