Personally, I just hope Labour members stop defending Blair. He is very impopular and toxic, defending him only hurts Labour. You may well be right, but if the Human Rights Act, freedom of information, devolution, the minimum wage, Lords reform, the hunting ban, equalisation of the age of consent and many more progressive measuures have become electorally toxic, then one could argue that the electorate (whether Labour members or voters as a whole) deserve everything they get. Just fixing that for you. You've neatly summarised 10 years of Blair's Labour government in less than one sentence. The greatest indictment of his premiership was that he didn't use his massive majority to completely change the political discourse of this country and instead did some important things but failed to completely change the narrative (unlike Atlee of Thatcher for example). What a waste.

Then he almost totally lost the plot on domestic policy. Rather than making his name politically poisonous for the reasons either you or I have stated, too many people focus on one foreign policy disaster instead.

Quite frankly one of the most hilariously awful Tory results I've seen for many a year. A precursor for next May methinks. Is Christchurch a middle-class area? It's west Cumbria, we have no councillors, they came third, we haven't even stood before 2010, Labour vote went up, Tories lost their seat. Shape of things to come.

What I'm trying to say is there was essentially nothingly else vaguely progressive, let alone game changing. Waste of a government, more interested in a majority rather than change.

Reports that Labour have gained Arley and Whitacre in N.Warwickshire from the Conservatives with 60% of the vote. If true will be third Labour gain of the night.

I see Arley and Whitacre ward is within the Nuneaton constituency, so will being huge pleasure to Labour people in that area.

There is zero chance of it being cut out. It's been sung every year for 20 years at Glee Club, and you won't make it out of there alive if you suggest stopping it. Rightly so, as it's a hilarious song. On one level I hope you don't cut it out. Because it shows you up for the hypocrites you are: advocating respect and tolerance for other parties in public, telling them to fuck off and die in private. Oh for goodness sake, belt up about this silly song already! Who reeelly cares about what the LDs do anyhoo!!

I have woken up to a parallel universe in which Labour had a good by-election night.

Not mentioned here (or anywhere else I have looked) but I do believe that Allerdale DC gain gives Labour outright control?

If the boundary changes go through, then it will be in North Warwickshire constituency.
