Nempnett Thrubwell and Sheepy Magna are new ones to me. I've previously referenced Newton Blossomville on here. (I hope finsobruce doesn't mind me beating him to it ) Nempnett Thrubwell is my father's favourite silly village name in Somerset, but yes, the Wurzels also tried to make it famous. Hadn't heard of Sheepy Magna though, as I'm not exactly familiar with rural Leicestershire.

Funnily enough, when I'm trying to follow what goes on at Conference, "news" tends to mean policy debates and similar, rather than what people sing when p*ssed. But I'll agree it is puerile, needlessly offensive and should be cut out. There is zero chance of it being cut out. It's been sung every year for 20 years at Glee Club, and you won't make it out of there alive if you suggest stopping it. Rightly so, as it's a hilarious song.

Christchurch (Allerdale)Result LAB: 40.7% (+5.8) LDEM: 29.4% (+20.0) CON: 25.9% (-19.3) UKIP: 4.0% (+4.0) The issue here seems is that is failure of Conservative to run a candidate in the town by-election held at the same time + an huge LD campaign. The town by-election was LD-Lab-ND and LD won it.

Because it shows you up for the hypocrites you are: advocating respect and tolerance for other parties in public, telling them to fuck off and die in private.

Personally, I just hope Labour members stop defending Blair. He is very impopular and toxic, defending him only hurts Labour.

As has been pointed out, there are as many songs ridiculing the Lib Dems, and all our MPs and former MPs, as there are about non-Lib Dems. Adults should be able to distinguish between theatrical mockery, and spreading hatred on the streets. Though I realise that the people now running your party cannot...

But we've just taken 20% of the vote share of the Tories in Allerdale, gifting you that by election, so its not all bad.

You may well be right, but if the Human Rights Act, freedom of information, devolution, the minimum wage, Lords reform, the hunting ban, equalisation of the age of consent and many more progressive measures have become electorally toxic, then one could argue that the electorate (whether Labour members or voters as a whole) deserve everything they get.

Christchurch (Allerdale)Result LAB: 40.7% (+5.8) LDEM: 29.4% (+20.0) CON: 25.9% (-19.3) UKIP: 4.0% (+4.0) Quite frankly one of the most hilariously awful Tory results I've seen for many a year. A precursor for next May methinks.

Ah yes, the same song that has been sung at every Lib Dem Conference Glee Club since 1997. The song's really an attack on "lib-labbery" rather than just Tony Blair. I think I remember when it was first sung. Some of them started out at the semi-regular Liberal Revue which sadly has disappeared. i've only missed two autumn Glee Clubs from 1994 onwards. One was because I was failing to chat up a woman and one because that week clashed with the induction of my MA. All this non by-election stuff reminds me of a fringe meeting in 1995 or 1996 organsied by the Guardian about Lib Dems talking to the Labour Party. One old guy in the audience said "Of course we should talk the Labour Party. How else can we tell them to fuck off!".
