Now I understand why I've had three new members in quick succession over the past few days. Thank you Colin. It's a quiet place, like a library. Unfortunately I've not been able to devote as much of my energy as I'd like to it for quite some time now. Glad to have been of service 🙂. I too have not been as active as I'd like, but there are a few new posts there for Wembley and Ruislip-Northwood UDCs. Unfortunately life gets in the way of more important things, like election results, psephology and politics!

there was still a religiously sectarian element to politics on Merseyside at that time which started to unwind soon afterwards, with Labour making large-scale gains in Liverpool at the 1964 general election as it unwound. This also applied to Glasgow to quite a degree but it was much less evident in other major cities Yes. Some of the religiously sectarian element to politics on Merseyside was covert, but much was jarringly overt until a surprisingly late date. I see from the final 1972 Liverpool MBC elections that there were two neighbouring wards in the north of the City which were still straight fights between Labour and a Protestant candidate. Whilst Labour won in both Netherfield and St Domingo it wasn't by much .... the results were, respectively, 869/712 and 783/782. And 1972 was one of Labour's better years in the City's elections.

In a similar vein, as part of a project I'm doing, I'm trying to find a resource which contains breakdowns of votes for all parties by regions since 1979. I'vemanaged to find this data for Con/Lab/LD but those resources have lumped all other parties together as "Other" and I'm particularly looking for regional breakdowns for Greens and UKIP/BXP. If anyone can help it would be appreciated commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8647/#fullreport

Fortunately, for me (I think) my wife is away visiting a friend* this weekend so I have the run of the house!
(well that's what she tells me at least)

I'm always up for a trip to Manchester, if that's where you live, but would insist on some Holts Mild during my visit. I have only once in the last 40 years visited Manchester without having a pint of it, and that was for my uncle's funeral when I was with my dad (who did not get on with his brother) all day.

Party off! Just checked that database and sadly it's hit the usual problem of lumping all the minority party votes together as "OTHER"

You may be referring to the former Politics Resources page of Warwick University?
Unfortunately that went offline a few years ago now.

It was an invaulable resource which I used all the time. Tragic that it disappeared. I wonder why it 'mysteriously' disappeared. Do we know anyone who may have been active at Keele around that time ?

Can anyone point me to the Ordnance Survey maps which show ward/county electoral division boundaries as they existed at the 1973 local elections? (i.e. immediately after local government reorganisation)
I assume I will be able to find them at the National Archives but are they available online anywhere?
