I was not deliberately following you carlton, and would not dream of doing so - I pressed the wrong button, and for about 2 seconds I was following you. I unfollowed you immediately. You may sleep safe in your bed safe in the knowledge that I am not doing so. I think that I may have done the same ages ago. There yet maybe members out there thinking that I am follwing them ....... Whatever that means? And that was of course the substance of my question. I still don't actually know what that function is for, why it is used and what it does? I think that there is a 'Gifts' function as well? What does that actually do? Why are these functions there at all?

There are many other forums on proboards where these functions are relevant, but not this one.

one of lifes minor irritations is that because you ( carlton43) often post your interesting film reviews in two stages there is somtimes a bit of searching to be done to se the complete revies (they dont come to the top of ‘recent posts’ as it is an edit) I wonder if ‘following’ would help me find them

That makes complete sense now. Thank you.

I do apologise for the serial episodic nature of my film posts. That reflects a concern not to loose material when called way on other duties, worrying about the connection or knowing we are in an 'Angry Bear' phase. But, I do always post a specific new entry on my 'Comment' thread to advise of completion of a film and also of any deletion from the Top 100, and another post on the '2nd Top 100' relating to additions there.

it was one of Carlton's better questions, to be fair. And I don't ask many. I tend to deliver opinions.

I think technically there is no reason why we couldn't buy these "gifts" and give them to other forum members, it's just we have too much sense to spend $1 to buy a virtual cookie.

Beyond the old Elections Centre website (http://www.electionscentre.co.uk/?page_id=2393), are there any other central online resources where old local election results are kept?

In a similar vein, as part of a project I'm doing, I'm trying to find a resource which contains breakdowns of votes for all parties by regions since 1979. I'vemanaged to find this data for Con/Lab/LD but those resources have lumped all other parties together as "Other" and I'm particularly looking for regional breakdowns for Greens and UKIP/BXP. If anyone can help it would be appreciated

You may not be aware of our sister forum, oldukcouncils.freeforums.net/Thank you for that. Several hours of fun today reading through that forum! Astonishing that the Conservatives won a seat on Kirkby UDC in 1958, something they didn’t even come close to doing even in Labour’s local government elections anni horribiles of 1968 and 1969.

there was still a religiously sectarian element to politics on Merseyside at that time which started to unwind soon afterwards, with Labour making large-scale gains in Liverpool at the 1964 general election as it unwound. This also applied to Glasgow to quite a degree but it was much less evident in other major cities

Other parties wouldn't have troubled the scorers much before 2010 anyway, except for the Referendum party in 1997 and maybe the BNP in one or two regions in the 2000s

THanks for the reply Pete. Im just looking specifically for data (votes) by Region from 1979-2019 just need for Green/Ecology party and Referendum/UKIP/BXP really.
The data Ive found either merges all the parties (excl Con/Lab/LD/SNP/PC) as OTHER which isnt helpful or Ive found data on parliament.uk and other resources which dp show figures to the nearest 1000 (EG Green party votes in North East Region in Year X = 6000] but was looking for cleaner data..

It's a quiet place, like a library. Unfortunately I've not been able to devote as much of my energy as I'd like to it for quite some time now.
