'I'm hoping we lose with a Corbyn supporting Trot candidate, frankly.'
Exact words just sent to me.

So the ever growing list of Labour by election defences continues.
This will be 6/6 in this Parliament 14/21 in the last parliament 8/14 between 2005-2010 6/6 between 2001-2005

Results at last election Labour (Andy Burnham) 24,312 53.9% Conservative (Louisa Townson) 10,216 22.6% UKIP (Les Legget) 8,903 19.7% Liberal Democrats (Bill Winlow) 1,150 2.5% TUSC Stephen Hall 542 1.2% I'm loving the name of the UKIP candidate. A shame he never went into partnership with Sue, Grabbit and Run.

What I would love to see is someone from any party campaigning here on an anti city devolution agenda. The issue has not had nearly enough debate and it really needs bringing far more into the spotlight.

Greater Manchester by election bingo:
A moderate Labour candidate is selected
John Bickley is selected
The latter is mercilessly ramped far more than is in any way reasonable
UKIP losing with bad face
Farage ranting about postal votes
Corbynistas ramping inevitable GE success
Miscellaneous racism
Lib Dems lose their deposit

Have been chosen the official candidate Andy Burnham is to stand down from parliament to run for Mayor of Greater Manchester Do you mean straight away (and not until after the election)? If so, what does that say about democracy in Greater Manchester when the Labour candidate is so convinced he is going to get in he thinks "I don't need to bother with Westminster anymore!"

Greater Manchester by election bingo: John Bickley is selected I doubt the perennial loser will be picked again.

And Leigh CLP, whenever the by-election is, will doubtless pick either a local or a locally favoured candidate of whatever faction because that's what CLPs in this sort of area do when given the option. And that is no bad thing.
