Says the person who celebrated when Jim Murphy lost his seat. Kettle, pot and black situation. I can never work out whether Mike is suffering from amnesia, or if he's just a hypocrite. No he's just full of shit!

Just to get us slightly back on topic...
Leigh's most famous elected representative was probably C P Scott of Guardian fame who was MP from 1895 to 1906, when he "retired" to spend more time with his newspaper.
In 1929 the Liberal candidate was called Thomas Hardy but the Liberals then decided to move far from the Madding Crowd and didn't stand again until 1974.
In 1951 the Tory candidate was called Henry Moore.
In 1918 the Labour candidate was Owen Jones, although being a spoilsport he also used his first name, Richard.

Jayson Lomax-Hargreaves is surely a made up name. Almost all double-barrel names are made up. Come to think of it, all names are made up originally; they have to be invented because they don't grow on trees or fall out of the sky.

We are going on the assumption that Burnham becomes ,ayor and considering how he was such a good bet for Labour leader, any chance of him mucking up going for MAYOR?

The labour vote is too strong in greater manchester for this to be a possibility. Plus all other parties have areas in greater manchester where their vote is really weak which hampers any real chance of challenging labour.

On the by-election, UKIP have a reasonably good chance of getting second place, but will probably be a weak second place unless they put in a really good campaign. Labour will probably go for a safety-first option and pick someone local who is moderate. But who knows, maybe Chris Williamson will attempt to get selected Not sure who the conservatives will pick. If they are going for someone local, then James Grundy would be a good pick if he is interested, he has done a lot of work in bolstering the conservative vote in Lowton East, which now has 3 conservative councillors.

Greater Manchester by election bingo: A moderate Labour candidate is selected John Bickley is selected The latter is mercilessly ramped far more than is in any way reasonable UKIP losing with bad face Farage ranting about postal votes Corbynistas ramping inevitable GE success Miscellaneous racism Lib Dems lose their deposit Add to that- The Lib Dems select Jane Brophy Wigan and area bingo- a strange sect, either the Community Action Party or the Wigan Trot Network or whatever they're called, stand. Wigan and area bingo number two- almost every vox pop involves Leythers complaining a) that they're not Wiganers or b) about the guided busway. Graham Stringer appears and not only adds nothing but actively subtracts.

And Leigh CLP, whenever the by-election is, will doubtless pick either a local or a locally favoured candidate of whatever faction because that's what CLPs in this sort of area do when given the option. And that is no bad thing. My suspicion is that Councillor Stitt will throw his hat into the ring.

Versus someone from Stettin? Stitty, Stotty and Stetty. Sounds like a puppet show from the 1950s. Or possibly East Germany.
