As long as you have made the same mistake in every ward, then it would make no difference to the map.

Well, doing the 3D Google Map based on winning majority, not winning vote share, has been somewhat ruined by the mountains of East Lancashire Some of the majorities are fewer metres than the peak of the hilly bits, so the maps aren't covered by the whole shape of the wards. Bugger.

After a month off, it's time for some new Pretty Maps and I'm starting a new series for North London, because it's high time that the 2010 London Borough elections went on LEAP. For no particular reason, Ealing is first. Ealing 2010. Lab 40 (+11) C 24 (-13) LD 5 (+2). Changes based on 2006: Lab gain from C Acton Central (3) East Acton (2) Greenford Broadway (1) Hobbayne (1) Northolt Mandeville (2) Perivale (2) LD gain from C Elthorne (1) Southfield (1) 2002 map: 2006 map: 2010 map: Cartogram of the 2010 results (showing each ward in proportion to its voting power): Split wards in 2010 were: Ealing Common: 1LD/2C Elthorne: Lab/LD/C Hobbayne: 2Lab/1C Northolt Mandeville: 2Lab/1C Perivale: 2Lab/1C

Barnet 2010. C 39 (+2) Lab 21 (+1) LD 3 (-3). 2010 map: Cartogram of the 2010 results (showing each ward in proportion to its voting power): Split wards in 2010 were: Coppetts: 2Lab/1C Underhill: 1Lab/2C Couple of points: (1) I was deeply unimpressed by the quality of Barnet's election results website elections.barnet.gov.uk/node/12464 which is so riddled with errors it's effectively unusable. (2) I have done some redesigning to LEAP. Feedback welcome.

I like the new header, especially as the maps are definitely your USP. LEAP is looking good!

(2) I have done some redesigning to LEAP. Feedback welcome. In Barnet's defence, at least they were quick putting up the results. In fact, according to the timestamps, all the results were published the day before polling day ;D As for LEAP, have you considered having some sort of index page listing all the councils A-Z together with all the years they had elections? At the moment, if you don't know when a council last held elections, you have use trial and error to find the results.

I'll have a look into it.

I agree with Richard - the line should totally be 'well if you don;t know i'm not going to tell you.' Everybody should really know this stuff without any need for referecning. Except for in the case of Bristol in which case nobody can reasonably be expected to know when there are elections and when there are not.

Would it also be possible to link the 2005 and 2009 county results, in the same way as district elections are linked?
Doing the same for 2002-2004 district elections would be more work, but is also something I'd put on my wishlist.

Looks nice, Andrew. I've been meaning to ask: are the 2012 pdf's essentially placeholders for when you get round to inputting/collating the results? I'd miss terribly your consolidated results, coloured wards list, gains/losses in brackets, maps(!) etc.

I'd miss terribly your consolidated results, coloured wards list, gains/losses in brackets, maps(!) etc. They are indeed placeholders and I will be replacing them in due course, not least because some of the pdfs are huge (the Stroud 2012 one is over 6MB) and take up a lot of bandwidth. However, it may take me 4 years to replace them so I thought it would be better to get something up quickly even if it isn't as pretty.

Enfield 2010. Lab 36 (+9) C 27 (-7) Save Chase Farm 0 (-2). 2010 map: Cartogram of the 2010 results (showing each ward in proportion to its voting power): There were no split wards in 2010. Aptly for today, Enfield includes a Jubilee ward.

I'll put these here too because a) they are pretty and b) they make interesting comparison with Andrews maps of the 2010 local London elections The 1st preference votes in the 2012 Mayoral election (adjusted for postal voting)
