Waltham Abbey, Our Father (Paternoster) must be the only religious themed ward (not named after a saint) in the entire country. Any idea why it was named that? It's an old name - it was retained from pre-1999 according to the report from the boundary review. Presumably it was named after a church; I can find references to Paternoster Hill in the area too, but little more. Quite a few wards with religious names that aren't saints though. Guildford alone has Christchurch, Holy Trinity, and Pilgrims. I'm not particularly disposed towards them - in the main they do a poor job of identifying communities. Oxford is one of the few exceptions (St Clements is the common name for the neighbourhood centred on that street, while St Margarets is also quite often used to refer to that bit of North Oxford). Religious ward names generally come from naming the ward after a church building in the ward, and the best reason for using that naming scheme is if there isn't a good community-based ward name available. So it's not surprising that some of them do a poor job of identifying communities.

So it's not surprising that some of them do a poor job of identifying communities. Many of them are also very old ward names. Many urban councils often named all or a significant chunk of their wards after churches. Both our two remaining examples in Portsmouth (St Jude & St Thomas) date back well over a century.

Is there a story behind the Green win in Ulverston? Doesn't seem like the most obvious place to elect a Green councillor Oh I think that it is, like chunks of Skye, parts of north Sutherland and much of Wester Ross, it is infested by 'back to nature', 'alternative', 'vegan', 'arty crafty' tossers whom I consider to be potential bedrock Green support. Presumably Waltham Abbey South West and Carlisle's Belah and Kingmoor are just as infested?

The LEAP website still hasn't been updated with this one. There are a few other things to add before I press play on the website for this one. Call this a sneak preview.

No, it was from just one page of this thread. As it happens, the same page you wrote your gormless shite on. In fact, the next two authorities Andrew posted about. I recommend you read the forum pages before posting.

Don't knock it. I am that rarity in the ward a White English Middle Class Conservative supporter of a party which doesn't appear to exist but it's Sunday so it's time for me to change affiliation again .... .......... Engaged on missionary work to alien Heathen! FTFY How kind of people to 'fix' things for me so often. I find I am able to go through life without altering other people's posts. I am still a Conservative and I vote Conservative, but I choose to show as part of my avatar a lean towards 'a party' that is very real to me in my head. I do that because I am unhappy with all existing parties,; with the leadership of the Conservatives; the structure of the Conservatives; with the Lockdown policy of the Conservatives; with the insane economic policies (if one can stoop to calling them 'policies') of the Conservatives; and the total failure of the Conservatives to get on top of the wholly mad level of Immigration. But in heart and gut and by habit I am every inch a proper conservative. Just such a pity that the party that bears the name is at the moment barely conservative at all in any respect. That is my position and it is not a flightly one at all. I am a constant. It is my party that faffs about and goes soft, Green, socialist, hoodie hugging, frit, gormless, Global Warming scammers, rushing off in all directions. Not me. I know what I want and the damned Conservatives so rarely ever provide it because the parliamentary party are an amorphous group of placemen, A-Lister dross, fools, chancers, social democrats, Remainers, socialists and thick plonkers, with dreadfully few real conservatives of conviction and sensible views. That is entirely a problem for me. The other parties are far far worse and that is your problem.
