Inspired by a discussion on another thread... constituencies with a Waitrose, excluding those in motorway services: Glancing at it, if only constituencies with a Waitrose were allowed to vote, there would be a large Conservative majority. Perhaps they would also have voted Remain? Argyll & Bute and Ynys Mon seen like odd outliers 😂 The Ynys Mon branch principally known for the Cuchess of Dambridge being a regular customer when they lived that way. [Typo noticed but retained]

The Harborne, Birmingham branch was formerly a Safeway (and possibly something else either/or before/in between). But Harborne is exactly the sort of place you would *expect* to have a Waitrose.

[Typo noticed but retained] The Ynys Mon branch is right next to the old Menai bridge, so very convenient for anyone at Bangor University or Ysbyty Gwynedd (Bangor's hospital, which also serves all of Ynys Mon). And Menai Bridge town is, in its own little way, starting to become a bit trendy now.

The Waitrose in Argyll & Bute is in Helensburgh, so not that odd really.

I wonder what would happen if you took constituencies with more than one Waitrose? Ashford would still qualify, as it has one in Tenterden as everyone knowing the area would expect, and one in Ashford itself and I have had heard lengthy complaints from certain quarters on the lines of what on earth is a poor town like Ashford doing with a Waitrose?

Here's the map of constituencies that have a Booths: Most interesting thing about this is they have four 'Preston' locations, plus three more on PR postcodes, but none are actually in the Preston constituency.

Similarly, the Waitrose stores in Morningside and Comely Bank both began as Safeway, and then I think were very briefly both Morrisons and Somerfield.

The Waitrose in Camden High Street (which has only been there four years) is turning into an Aldi, which looks like a sub-regional movement to me.

When Waitrose opened in the former Safeway in Sandbach there was much upset that locals would be unable to afford to shop there. Incidentally the map appears to have missed Chester (which has two, if we include Little Waitrose).

Similarly, the Waitrose stores in Morningside and Comely Bank both began as Safeway, and then I think were very briefly both Morrisons and Somerfield. Morningside was one of the best regarded Safeway stores. I used to travel over from Leith to shop there. It went downhill dramatically as Safeway declined. They seemed to have an idea that their main market was students and stocked accordingly. There were about three aisles of crisps and similar and next to bugger all else. Safeway in Hunter's Tryst used to resemble Moscow Central (during the Brezhnev era) with loads of empty shelves and lack of fresh food. Morrisons took over Safeway and with it, the branch. We were then informed that Morrisons had to 'lose' a number of stores to comply with competition regulations. I can't think why as Morrisons had no presence in Edinburgh before the takeover as far as I was aware. Safeway had acquired a number of other chains including Presto and the Argyll Group. So it became Somerfield for one week! Then Waitrose took over and we had a decent supermarket for the first time in years. Since then both Tesco and Sainsbury have opened stores in Bruntsfield. Tesco also had no presence in Scotland until they acquired the William Low chain.

The one in Balham was previously a Somerfield, and before that a Morrisons, a Safeway, and a Presto.

78: Chichester District Council, West Sussex, South East:
When making this 100 day countdown I should have left a few interesting councils to spread throughout the countdown, a few boring ones for a bit! Chichester is a definite Conservative hold (bar brexit madness) Like many others like it, it will be a Lib Dem gains challenge. Boundary changes: 29 wards to 21, 48 seats to 36. My prediction: Conservative HOLD.

I've never heard of Booths before, but upon googling it I notice it looks like a sort of posh Waitrose thingy

77: Hyndburn Borough Council, Lancashire, North West.
Sticking with the random, slightly less interesting (but in this case excellent) councils: Hyndburn. Safe Labour hold, however there is a good chance of seeing a few Conservative gains here. The Conservatives need to gain all 9 available seats to gain a majority, Labour need to avoid losing all of their defenses. My prediction: Labour HOLD.

"The Place to Be. An excellent council". Wow. I feel it's meant to be read as "The place to be an excellent council", but it's horribly written.

76: Bolton Council, Greater Manchester, North West:
Tonight we head over to the home of andrewteale, to see a council that was still Labour held last May but has since fallen to NOC due to a resignation. This is likely the way it is gonna stay with Labour likely to make more losses. Labour need a net gain of +1 and more than the Conservatives to regain the council, the Conservatives need a net gain of +12 to take it. My prediction: NOC GAIN from Labour. (Was Labour HOLD in 2018)
