I recall a council election in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, where a Liberal Democrat candidate defected to the Conservatives after the close of the election - so was actually on the ballot paper as a Liberal Democrat. The Conservatives didn't stand a candidate - and eventually it was unmasked as a deliberate infiltration by the Tories. Local Liberal Democrats called on their supporters to vote Labour, which they did, and Labour's majority increased in consequence

Nick Parker is the only candidate to actually live in the ward. The English Democrats have had to import their candidate from Holland. Boston, Holland that is. Nick Parker is imho a self-opinionated knob, but a hard working self-opinionated knob who loves self-promotion, so we might see a reasonably better TUSC vote that normal...

The Wealden Polegate contest will be an interesting fight between the Independent Joe O'Riordan a Town councillor for the ward and the LD Don Broadbent who was District Councillor for the neighbouring Polegate South ward from 2007-2011 when he did not defend his seat . It will come down to which of the 2 the Shing family endorse as their favoured candidate . The multiskilled Shing family seem quite nice. And I rather like East Sussex County Council allowing its councillors to express themselves on the Council's website, I don't think any London Council does this. www.eastsussex.gov.uk/yourcouncil/about/people/councillors/find/polegate/about.htm

The Fleet ward must have one of the largest length to width ratio in the country.

Seems that Lincoln East had a low turnout and is very shortly to declare.

Back in 1994 when Lib Dem byelection candidate for Newham NE Alec Kellaway defected on eve of Poll he was seen on sofas with Frank Dobson and Jack Straw. They said how this showed how wonderful Labour was. Kellaway did not say 'vote Labour'. This was thought by many to be because if he endorsed Labour then the (limited but real) expenditure promoting Kellaway in the previous month might count as an indirect promotion of Labour and have to count for them too. Didn't the election law at the time prevent candidates being able to speak much on air?

A bit but not particularly so given it is August. Relative turnout 63% compared to 2009 and 40% to 2005.

Although boundary changes in Lincoln confuse things the majority of this seat is the current Abbey ward of Lincoln BC . The Labour and Conservative % s are almost identical to the Abbey ward result in 2011 but the May 2012 results were rather better for Labour they polled 57% to Conservatives 25% there were no UKIP or ED candidates in May .
