There's too much sport in this forum.. Lab Gain from LD Milton Keynes Bradwell Watford Exchange I love the name 'Watford Exchange'. It's so old-fashioned and makes me think of Bessie Braddock's old constituency of Liverpool Exchange! If you want to have even fonder thoughts of Exchange, while I have had decent support (at different times) in a number of bits of Liverpool Riverside, the part of it that was Exchange has always, always, always delivered an incredibly convincing mullering to me. Every time. In the rest of the seat I get beat. There I get obliterated.

I'm going to do some other regions but I'm wary of the temptation to carry on in a kind of geographical order from the south and work my way north. This approach has the disadvantage that I am likely to find the North East too (relatively) boring and that I will therefore not complete the project. If anyone has specific requests for their own regions I will do that. Otherwise my next region will most likely be Essex-East Anglia (that is to say the Eastern region less Herts & Beds)

Do the North East next in that case, to get it out of the way

I think his eminence has it right. You need to move the NE up the queue, and I would suggest leave somewhere important to you till the end.

In any case I can't do the North East until we have the results from Durham and Northumberland next year. The latest results (2009) belong in the earlier cycle

Ah, good point. Doesn't that apply to a few other places as well (Shropshire, Wiltshire, Cornwall)?
So which areas are left that you can do now??

Yes its a bit of a nightmare with all that. The other three southern regions are all ok apart from the one including the Isle of Wight which I can work around. The other problem with the northern regions is the size of the wards in the Met boroughs, especially so in Yorkshire

I think all of the NW has now had a bit of a vote since 2010.
Time for the Lancashire Landtag perhaps?

I think I will do that then. Thinking about the Northumbrian conundrum, there were elections in all areas in 2007 (and 2003, 1999 etc) so I could use the 2009 results for Durham and Northumberland in conjunction with the 2011 results for the Met boroughs, Cleveland etc. My problem with that is the mismatch between the party performances in those years, 2009 being dire for Labour of course and 2011 being quite good

Iain will have to correct me but would that actually be Pfalzgrafschaft bei Lancashire or possibly Pfalzherzogschaft

And I suppose London could be done now, and updated in 2014?

Iain will have to correct me but would that actually be Pfalzgrafschaft bei Lancashire or possibly Pfalzherzogschaft A complex issue. If a German referred to the County of Lancashire, they would probably call it County Lancaster (plural Countys), unless they were "altes schule" in which case they would probably call it Grafschaft Lancaster. If an Austrian referred to it, it would be Grafschaft Lancaster. However, if they were referring to the duchy, then it would be Herzogtum von Lancaster, although there as it's a Royal Duchy, the Austrians would probably make a case for it to be a Erzherzogtum - or to you, guv, an Archduchy as they love their flummery. Whilst the concept of the county palatine exists in German, I'm afraid they are usually referred to as a mere Pfalzgrafschaft (c.f. Tübingen). Yer actual Pfalz, as in the southern bit of Rheinland-Pfalz was an Electorate and therefore the name Kurpfalz was given to the area, but electors were Princes in their own right - a veritable Kürfurst. Of course, the Hohenzollerns had to go one better and be both Electors of Brandenburg and Kings in Prussia. ;D

I had the feeling that before the Electorate Palatine (also northern Bayern as is?) it was a County Palatine (which I had as Pfalzgrafschaft). I have some reservation about the concept of Duchy Palatine as the concepts are from different eras so I suppose Pfalzgrafschaft Lancaster (I did wonder even originally about whether I should use the town name). I think it gives Lancashire that bit more kudos compared to other Landtagen :-)
