If Renzi had got his way a few years ago, the entire provincial tier of government would've been abolished across Italy.

If Renzi had got his way a few years ago, the entire provincial tier of government would've been abolished across Italy. And already Monti wanted to reduce them. But they are useful, not only for the NumberPlates of cars, but potentially also as ElectoralUnits (630:107=~6 MPs per district).

Exit poll in Umbria
Centre-right set to win easily. 56-60% vs 35-40% of the M5S-PD alliance

Strong showing of Salvini: The recent regions were won by ~50%, this time it will be ~60% (despite still being lower than some months ago in federal OpinionPolls).
Those catastrophic 7.5% for M5S will let them hesitate to make more joint candidatures with PD (unless they will be totally collapsing in OpinionPolls one day).

Nice shift of a decimal point there. Shows how nobody looks at the text if you have a bar chart to look at.The bar chart is of course correct.

Elections in Emilia Romagna on Sunday could add further chaos to Italian politics, if that is possible.

Calabria seems to be a clear gain for Salvini. EmiliaRomagna is close in the OpinionPolls (but they have several times underestimated CentroDestra in the recent past). If E&R will be lost, PD might end up in May/June with ruling in just 1 region (Lazio, under their PartyPresident Zingarelli).

The Right taking Emilia Romagna would be quite symbolic--it is the heartland of the Italian Left.

Ferrara is a lovely city & it's a great province. Like much of central Italy it was nice until swamped by incomers reducing the community to put up with filth, litter, drug dealing, street veding with attitude, organised team of beggars and streets and roads degraded by strings of ugly prostitutes. The alt.woke left in charge of Emilia Romagna and Toscano have let this happen with the same casual indifference as we saw by Rotherham to child abuse and for exactly the same woke reasons. And decent ordinary people trying to tidy up this utter mess of degradation are smeared by the alt.woke BBC as being 'hard right'. What bloody rubbish. Italy needs taking in hand before it is utterly wrecked by swarm of filth from Africa and Balkans. I used to live there and I know of which I speak.

Italy is depopulating so definitely not swarmed by anyone. Needs taking in hand I agree, an end to population control is just as likely to produce the desired result. The only way to reduce immigration is to boost the birth rate, but that includes the birthrate of unsavory undigineous elements currently suppressed with draconian methods.

Whilst Italy has faced economic (anaemic growth; depopulation in the countryside) and immigration (Mediterranean sea) challenges, this is classic Bermuda triangle stuff!
