I am on my PC - it lets me change my name, not my party. You need to go to the Settings tab, then the Display Group option. It just says Co-operative or None.

goodness it's donkey's years since Mike Thomas was heard of - apparently he is still alive and in his late 70s. Mike Thomas lives in retirement in Brill, Bucks, but is a regular newspaper correspondent (mostly to the Times and Telegraph). I had an email exchange with him a few years ago (we happen to have been to the same school).

Never seen it as a soft-right option. I am not of that background anyway. I suspect the perspective may be that a cooperative position is about increasing the labour share through developing and growing enterprises rather than redistributive measures, which puts them on the economic right (in Labour terms). That's my reading of the situation and I might be wrong. There is the added factor that there are people on the actual economic right who support cooperatives, mutuals and so on as a way of building individual involvement in the economy and view it as a way of building a shareowning democracy. This a more continental view admittedly but it isn't that rare a stance especially in academia in the UK. This may also influence some on the left to view the Co-Op Party as being right wing. I wouldn't say that the Co-Op Party itself is right wing in Labour terms, but there is a divide between those who join it because they are keen on the principles of co-operation (no particular factional distribution that I've come across) and those who join internal party organisations because they are keen on networking and being part of things (which tends to tilt to the right.) It's far to say that amongst MPs, those who've had the Labour Co-Op designation haven't always been especially vocal on co-operative issues.

Maybe we need another thread for this. I like mutuals, cooperatives etc as part of an economy. What infuriates me from a professional view, when I've helped clean up after collapses, is that loads of people complain about remuneration, direction etc but never bother to vote or involve themselves at all. And when it goes wrong just shrug and suggest it is nothing to do with them.

Some of the Leeds Labour council candidates in the 1980s used to stand as "Labour and Co-op". One year I wrote and article in the local evening paper saying it appeared that the candidates with this label had not to have done as well as those whose tag was just "Labour". This amateur psephology did not go down well with the some of the Labour and Co-op candidates, and the paper published a letter from one of them roundly condemning the article as anti-Co-op.

A pity I haven't got Labour and Co-operative as my moniker, as I used to and some still have.

Maybe the confusion about the party labels on the ballot paper caused some of the voters to be uncooperative.

It was indeed he (1Lab/1Con to be strictly accurate) but now that he is back in the room (and party) he's not expected to do that again

When I retook the political compass test last week, it placed me well along the authoritarian spectrum, but slightly into the left side.
Any of the reds fancy me moving in?
