He's ÖVP, for heaven's sake. Even the FPÖ isn't really fascist. But he isn't a camp Bond villain either? I must say he reminds me of someone, but I can't think who.

First poll with a "lead" (51:49) of the GREEN-candidate (conducted by P.Hayek for ATV).

Is it a sign of shifting polls, or just a function of how many polls there have been now?

Is it a sign of shifting polls, or just a function of how many polls there have been now? Under circumstances it is caused by the lack of spectacular islamic terror in the recent weeks. But 48-52 is too close to be certain; also the SampleNumbers aren't very high in Austria. (Although: IMAS has usually about 1.000 probands, but polls rather badly.)

Because of defect envelopes a delay of the ReRun (into November) is not unlikely...

Is it a sign of shifting polls, or just a function of how many polls there have been now? UniqueResearch came out with the same 51:49 for VanDerBellen. But Gallup - as the only pollster, that published polls in the recent past - has it 52 for Hofer (and 53 last time, so rather no trend is visible).

The re-run of the 2nd round has indeed been postponed (and will now be held on either the 27th November or 4th December) due to faults in the postal ballot process (WHICH YOU MAY RECALL IS WHY THE WHOLE ELECTION IS BEING RERUN IN THE FIRST PLACE).
Presumably the Ministry of the Interior will spend the time making up further sensible new rules to make the voting process secure, like banning voters from entering their polling station or delaying the release of results until a year after the election.

Looks more and more like an endless SoapOpera... I've heard a few people suggesting that there's more to this than meets the eye, but they don't appear very well informed. Do you think it's just incompetence, or could there be something else going on? The (first) RunOff had clearly no organized fraud. These defect envelopes might be caused by heat, also rather a mistake. Very problematic has been, that Mid&Left want to update the VotersRegister, what has never been done so far, is - perhaps not de iure, but certainly de facto - illegal and would damage Hofer.

How can anything be anything but de jure illegal? And no, Austria really is just this much of a joke country. An establishment conspiracy also seems rather unlikely given that the re-run decision overturned Van der Bellen's victory.
4th December it is, by the way.

How can anything be anything but de jure illegal? The RunOff was held under certain rules, i.e. there has existed a tradition, an implicit treaty since 1945, that no new voters are allowed for the SecondRounds, what was just correct. All ParliamentaryParties (FPÖ too) intend to vote for changing the electorate, what will create a new treaty (legal), but one that nontheless replaces and violates the old one (illegal).

An establishment conspiracy also seems rather unlikely given that the re-run decision overturned Van der Bellen's victory. Uncertain is, why SPÖVP didn't influence " their" judges (13/14) to decide differently. And why FPÖ prefers now to add new voters, too. But certain is, that Kern, Häupl and parts of the ÖVP are collecting money for VanDerBellen and began to support the idea of updating the electorate, initially without FPÖ-support.

Because said added voters would have remembered FPO blocking them being added. And they'll be voters for decades afterwards.

You won't believe it:
Invalid envelopes with the old ElectionDate have still to be sent to PostalVoters, because the postponed date isn't law so far.
Another emerging problem is, that the HomeOffice wants to order from the state's own printers the new envelopes without advertising it EU-wide (wasting too much time for an election in December), what will clearly hurt EU-law.
