This isn't really the thread for it, as they're not byelections, but there will be parish council elections in May in some areas that will otherwise not be holding elections. Specifically, I'm aware of the various parishes across Cumbria, which remain on the 2023 cycle despite the abolition of the districts, and the new Taunton council in Somerset. Is anyone aware of any others?

[]* Re Saltash, 16th Feb: here's the notice of uncontested election from the town council noticeboard, as I happened to be there on the Friday following. I was in town because I have as visiting my birthplace - which is in Essa ward! Also, two points on Lancing (Penhill). Firstly a correction, it's in Adur not Worthing, the joint website may not make that clear. Secondly, the candidate with no description is long time LibDem, and Worthing resident, Bob Smytherman. As I don't believe he's left the LibDems, particularly to stand in a parish council election in Adur, I suspect petty funny business by certain members of Lancing LibDems, who really should have been chucked out years ago.

Lyme Regis Town Council and Church Knowle Parish Council here in Dorset will both hold by elections on April 13th. Decent chance of at least one party candidate in Lyme Regis.

The winner is Colin Pacifico whom amazingly I remember canvassing in St Peter's ward, Brighton (then a fairly safe Labour ward) in 1983

I always find uncontested town council by elections fascinating. Someone bothered to find the ten signatures to call it. But only one person put in papers. Did they think the parish council was lining up someone for the co-option? Who didn't then submit a noms paper?

Sam, isn't Bob Smytherman a pretty well-known figure in the area? He was a Lib Dem Councillor in Worthing for 20-30 years until last May. He's also the Town Crier for Worthing Bob was first elected to the Borough Council for Tarring ward in 2002, and served continuously until 2022. He was first elected to the County Council for Tarring division in 2009, and served until 2021. A total of 32 years service. He was also Mayor of Worthing. He is no longer a member of the LibDems, but not out of protest or ideological differences, just stepping out of party politics.
