There was a time when ALDC didn't bother about election results from Town and Parish councils. I've never heard of Lawley & Overdale - I guess we have to take comfort wherever we can get it these days.

There was a time when ALDC didn't bother about election results from Town and Parish councils. I've never heard of Lawley & Overdale - I guess we have to take comfort wherever we can get it these days. They only bother if we win. I was constantly amazed by the media (once they realised there was a contested by-election, not just a Tory acclamation) swallowing our line that winning control of Amersham Town Council was somehow a big sign of progress! While only winning one seat in the UA elections on the same day...

Indeed they did. Differential turnout here is very interesting. Difference to May Borough election. Con down 500 votes Lab down 350 votes Grn down 27 votes Labour ran a very energetic campaign here. The by-election in South Ward (probably September) will be interesting.

Belper Central appears to be a good town council result for Labour, considering that the Conservatives were unopposed here in 2011 and elected en bloc in 2015.
5 May 2011 – 4 Con unopposed 7 May 2015 – Con 1218/1121/1040/951, Lab 942/879/777, Green Party 608/578/471/392, UKIP 496/385 2 May 2019 – Lab 853/829/736/678, Green Party 632, Con 591/521/508/493, Lib Dem 314

and here is a Lib Dem gain which the enthusiastic ALDC appears to have missed
Beverley (Minster South) - resignation of Margaret Pinder (Lab)
Graham Johnson (Lib Dem) 527 (57.8%) Elaine Aird (Con) 260 (28.5%) Ronald Laden (Independent) 124 (13.6%).
Labour did not defend the seat, despite leading in the elections there since 2007. Even in 2015, they picked up two seats.
Lib Dems first contested this town council ward in 2019 and now they have won a seat here.
Town Council election results (4 seats) 3 May 2007 – Lab 808/707/704, Green Party 801, No Description 576 5 May 2011 – Lab 818/734/724, Con 658/649/603/573, Green Party 514/416, Independent 460 7 May 2015 – Con 1142/1114, Lab 1057/1037/1028/961, Beverley Party 917/903, Independent 664 2 May 2019 – Independent 815, Lab 610/570/550, Lib Dem 496/425/399, Con 447, Independent 372

Alfreton Town Council - West Ward
The by-election scheduled for 19th August to replace a conservative who had resigned will not take place as only one candidate was nominated.
Christian Dale, the Conservative elected in May for the borough seat has been returned unopposed.
New Council: Lab 13 Con 2
Wondering if a deal was done to save the council the cost of a by-election. Labour not standing a candidate is something of a surprise.
