Some rancour building up here (Cranmore Ward, Tiverton): www.middevongazette.co.uk/family-polls/story-26613310-detail/story.htmlThen yesterday's Daily Telegraph points out that she has been a serial non-attender because she went off to study at Winchester University. This is creating discord in the council. With both parents also on the council and the household collectively taking in 17,000 pounds per annum in attendance fees, one suspects she may have to resign or public opinion might take it out on her family members as well when they next come up for election. Having one's cake and eating it too? I am a town councillor in Andover and we do not get as much as a cup of tea for our efforts. Maybe I am standing in the wrong place!

They're on the district council as well. Are you sure the report hasn't confused their district councillors' allowances with non-existant parish/town councillors' allowances. I get a free cup of tea, but I have to extract it from the drinks machine myself.

Dronfield has a population in excess of 21,000. How, then, does one of its wards (albeit a single-member one) have only 112 electors?!?

Dronfield has a population in excess of 21,000. How, then, does one of its wards (albeit a single-member one) have only 112 electors?!? Presumably it's one of these situations where when district boundaries were drawn up a small part of Dronfield parish was hived off to an outside seat. The LGBCE then creates a parish ward which follows the same boundary as the district ward no matter how small it is.

Looks like its more an issue with the CC boundaries - it would be that part of Dronfield Woodhouse ward which is within the Dronfield East CC diviison, the greater part being in the Dronfield West & Walton division (a monstrous division whose existance I was previously unaware of)

Ah, yes of course. I should've thought of the knock-on effect of County Council divisions. They really are a law unto themselves, aren't they?

Although given the awkward shape of NE Derbyshire itself, the LGBCE didn't really have any other options. Could expand the Sheffield boundary. Would certainly make the Sheffield City Region more coherent if the Hope Valley was joined with Yorkshire.
