When's the NEC going to impose Corbyn's Scottish mate then? What in the name of all things holy are you blabbing on about now? There were unsubstantiated rumours that Corbyn was trying to push Katy Clark (except Ayrshire North and Arran MP and now something senior in his Leaders' Office) for the seat.

Elmore is a moderate; Gwyther and Hopkins appear to have voted for Jeremy Corbyn. Can't tell about Alex Owen.

When Katy Clark decides to go for another seat -assuming she does - she won't need to be imposed. It's accepted across the board that she's intelligent and impressive and had she not lost her seat she may have even been leader herself

Oh give it a rest. A shrill and by the book little lady who spoke in chapter headings rather than plain English.

She'd have been a serious and viable leadership candidate?

]Really? She'd have been a serious and viable leadership candidate? Given the mood of the Labour selectorate by September 2016 then I think it is quite clear that a dustbin painted red would have been a serious and viable leadership candidate.

Elmore has won the Labour selection Don't know the internal politics. Was Elmore head and shoulders the best candidate, or is there an internal political lesson? It seems the moderates have two for two with selections in winnable seats this parliament, which could be important for deselections and so PLP discipline.

Is it a correct belief that the mass of members who have joined in the past year don't get a vote in these selections yet?

JC took his turn but someone like Katy may have been an alternative option.

Selection votes are often not particular factional, at least outside London and at least in terms of national factional alignments. In this case Elmore had all the relevant union branches onside plus the backing of the outgoing AM who is also Ray Powell's daughter and this is South Wales so...

Besides 'Elmore for Ogmore' I mean there will have been votes in that alone.

Which is a better way of making my point. For deselection to be a credible threat there would need to be some factionalism in play.

Has anything actually been set as regards the date for this by election?

Has anything actually been set as regards the date for this by election? Huw Irranca-Davies is still the MP; he has to resign first (Steward of the Manor of Northstead on the usual alternation principle). Presumably both Ogmore and Sheffield byelections will be held on 5 May. For polling on 5 May, the writ would have to be moved on 5 April at the latest; this is a recess day, so the writ may be moved instead on Maundy Thursday 24 March which is the last sitting day before the Easter recess.

She'd have been a serious and viable leadership candidate? Unlike Mike, I have had the pleasure of seeing her close-up as a candidate in a leadership contest. On this, as on many other things, I disagree with him about her.
