With 10 seats still unresolved we have the following (final range of seats in brackets)
FG: 47 (49-50) FF: 43 (44-46) SF: 22 (22-25) Lab: 6 (6-8) PBP: 5 (5-7) IA: 4 (5-6) SD: 3 GRN: 2 IND: 16 (16-17)
There is also a recount in Dublin South West which could potentially switch a seat from Ind to FG

Latest gossip is that FF may officially decide that while they won't enter a grand coalition with FG, they will give a pledge not to bring down a minority FG (+ whatever partners FG can find) government for a certain period of time.

The way the RTE site shows the results isn't very clear, it still has him on 11655 which makes it look like the surplus is yet to be transferred. If you scroll down you will see "Voting in Detail" which shows that no candidate was eliminated after the first count. Surpluses are distributed before candidates are eliminated if it is mathematically possible that the surplus could prevent the bottom candidate(s) being eliminated.

Given the crash in their support, I wonder if Irish Labour might once again become vulnerable to entryism. Except this time, rather than the entryists being Trots rapidly transitioning into radical centrists, the new entryists might be leftish independents seeking a recognisable brand. Of course, that depends upon whether the brand recognition is worth the derision associated with it. Its also possible that the antediluvian elements take back control. Not that this would be a Leftwards swing, exactly...

But by then Democratic Left were a load of centrist Eurocommunists - who took the party to the Right as they embraced Blairite free market orthodoxy Bit more complicated than that (i.e. it isn't as though Irish Labour was ever exactly left wing; they tended to avoid even using the word 'socialist' until the 1960s). Its more that the Stickie element brought their main political obsession with them (i.e. cultural cringe) and that they never really cared about anything else...

It's a long way to Killarney (but there'll now be two motorways that get you there)...

There are still five counts to complete and 10 seats to fill as of now. Watch this space for the final results in Longford-Westmeath, Wexford, Dublin South West, Dublin South Central and Dublin Bay North, since their final counts should be completed today.

There's MORE talk of recounts and going into another day.
The Kerry Motorways will be built before the last count has finished!

There haven't been any new TDs declared elected since 11 pm last night.
(Just as I wrote that, Wexford concludes its count with two Fine Gael TDs being elected. Now eight more seats to fill.)

Does anybody want to be in government?! No, as it won't last for long, with likely nefarious consequences at next election. It's a giant trap, especially for junior partners.

Ireland needs a Lib Dems to take the next bullet. It has a Lib Dems- your fellow European party members. They are equally liberal and principled.
