First TD elected (as opposed to being returned automatically) is Shane Ross (IA, Dublin Rathdown).

Shane Ross has become the first TD to be elected by the voters.
Dublin Rathdown has done two counts when nearly every other constituency is still on the first.

And Peter Mathews, ex-FG turned indy in Dublin Rathdown, becomes the first sitting TD to be eliminated.
This one could see Alan Shatter, ex Justice and Defence minister, lose his seat - currently there's a race to challenge him between FF and the Greens with 11 votes in it.

And it looks like the constituency has appropriately said "fuck you!" to Paul Gogarty.

What % is that for Labour? Quite a huge drop from 31% in 2011

Kildare South first prefs make it likely there will be 2 Fianna Fáil, 1 Fine Gael elected in the three-seater.

No it was the elimination of smaller polling candidates.

No it was the elimination of smaller polling candidates. I misread the page but it still involved the transfer of relatively few votes.

Reports from Sligo-Leitrim that somebody has lost the keys to one of the ballot boxes, and the count staff are trying to open it with a hacksaw.

Wouldn't a small surplus actually involve a lot of work as you'd need to transfer tiny proportions of vote from a lot of ballot papers? The Republic uses a different surplus method of lifting a random sample of ballot papers.

Wouldn't a small surplus actually involve a lot of work as you'd need to transfer tiny proportions of vote from a lot of ballot papers? That's true in Norn Iron, but in the Republic they take a random sample of ballot papers and transfer those.
