Another omission noted - those Welsh districts who elected by thirds (a relatively small number, admittedly) have their 1992 and 1994 results missing.

I wasn't aware there were any that elected by thirds in that period.

Newport, Rhondda, Port Talbot and Colwyn for sure (maybe one or two others)

Colwyn had an all-up election in 1991. Newport, Port Talbot, Rhondda and Swansea had elections in 1992 and 1994, the results are in the UK Data Service spreadsheet, but not in the PDFs.

Where a council does not have its own pdf file, the results are available in the Local Elections Handbook for that year.

Newport, Rhondda, Port Talbot and Colwyn for sure (maybe one or two others) I campaigned in the last Rhondda elections in 1994 as all neighbouring constituencies were allocated a ward. They were fairly good ones for us.

Notional ward results for every General Election time! Anyone? Anyone?..... Life is probably too short to do all one would like to do, but I've done Hertfordshire for 1979 and the two 1974 elections now. Will redo my 1983 and 1987 notionals in the light of the 'new' (ie older) date October 1974 is in my avatar

It hasn't been down consistently for a few days because I was on it yesterday but it has been intermittent and often taking ages to load pages. I assume it will come back but I wish I had gone with my original plan of downloading every one of the PDF's on there and saving them locally. Was planning to do some work this evening which relied on that data (Essex-East Anglia regional election 1983 since you asked...)

I directed a work colleague to the site on Friday, when it was working.

Perhaps the site is experiencing much more traffic than had been anticipated now that the likes of us on this forum, possibly UKPR and others have discovered it. Reminds me of a genealogy website which was the first to include the entire 1901 census when it was released for public viewing in 2001: so many people logged on to find information on their great grandparents that the site crashed and stayed down for weeks.

I haven't come across the site whilst it has been working for a few days, but am pleased to hear it's not permanently offline.

How long has the Whitaker's Almanack provided details of council compositions?

Not sure. Just had a look in my new Whitaker 1918; it doesn't have details of council compositions but does have a full list of London County Councillors.

How long has the Whitaker's Almanack provided details of council compositions? First appeared in 1952. The preface announced "In view of the fact that municipal elections are increasingly conducted on 'party lines', an addition has been made to the Municipal Directory showing for the first time the party representation in English Boroughs." Until local government reform, the section only ever covered boroughs in England, not urban or rural districts, not county councils, not Metropolitan Boroughs in London, and nothing outside England.
