It was said that Tiberius tried to secure his reputation by choosing a successor even worse than himself. I shall always be consistent and never change my ways so long as I am in my senses; but for the sake of precedent the Senate should beware of binding itself to support the acts of any man, since he might through some mischance suffer a change. (Tiberius) That worked out well!

No actual numbers, but BMG has been doing internal polling for Labour and focus groups on potential leader has leaked. They found Angela Rayner was viewed as "not likeable", "charity shop looking" and "weird". Rebecca Long Bailey was described as "passionate", "genuine" and "rough". The Times says Corbyn's camp have now decided on Bailey being his successor. If we must lose Corbyn she would be a very acceptable replacement. I'm still backing Diane.

It could all have been so different.... I don't remember seeing that - I would only have been about six at the time! I suppose it was later eclipsed by "I Claudius".

There is lots of outstanding acting in I Clavdivs but Patrick Stewart's performance when Sejanus has to listen to Tiberius's letter being read before the Senate is exceptional.

Another great performance by Patrick Stewart is as Karla in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy". He says nothing but dominates the scene. (It would be wrong to say he steals it, since the point of the scene is how Karla's self-control defeats Smiley; nevertheless, bloody hard to pull off.)

Patrick Stewart does not speak a single word as Karla in either Tinker Tailor or Smiley's People.

Wont do theyll publish them later. Very interested to see the methodology only the second poll to put Corbyn ahead of the PM on best PM question. Only the second poll since the GE with the Tories ahead. Only the second poll with Tories ahead and Corbyn ahead of TM

It shows a 10 point move to Labour compared to their eve of election poll. That at least sounds about right

It shows a 10 point move to Labour compared to their eve of election poll. That at least sounds about right Given they were predicting a 13 point lead for the Tories in popular vote the day before the election, I'd hope there's been a significant methodology change - otherwise we can assume Labour are actually well ahead!

New poll (12-15 September): Conservative Party: 39% Labour Party: 38% Liberal Democrats: 8% UKIP: 6% Green Party: 4%
This poll is just not believable at all. The idea that UKIP are on 6% (triple their support from the general election) without a leader or that both the main parties are below 40% is ridiculous. I know there is margin of error, but still.
