Do you mean it's more like the Turkish ı or the Estonian õ? "ao" has the sound "e:" in southern Irish Gaelic and "i:" in most northern dialects, but the "ɯ" stands in in Scottish Gaelic. It's the sound used in the name Caol (Charles Kennedy's home village). |

There are 11 by-elections remaining in August, 3 of which are in Scotland. So far there are 13 during September including a "double" election together with another 4 in October. In addition there are a further 12 known or impending vacancies, 9 in England and an additional 3 in Scotland. Currently 21 of the total 79 contests and vacancies occuring since the general election are as a result of the resignations of the sitting councillors as they are now MPs.

For the 18th August election, the deceased councillor in Orkney was sitting and was the leader of the Orkney Manifesto Group (which had 3 councillors at the time of his death), which stands a candidate in the by-election.
So, it should read "No Description sitting as Orkney Manifesto Group died" I suppose.

With the newly elected Conservative MPs for Brecon and Radnorshire & Twickenham (both defeating Lib Dem MPs) resigning their councils seats in Hampton Wick, LB Richmond & Glasbury, Powys and both wards electing Lib Dems are their any other newly elected MPs to help the #LibDemfightback in this way?! Not sure how many of the others in this category are still Councillors?

Cecilia Love, Labour Councillor for Riverside in Cardiff has resigned. She was shortly due to be disqualified under the six month rule.
This will be the 6th by election in the 75 member council since 2012 (5 Labour resignations and 1 Tory (New MP for Cardiff North)).
It will also be the third by election in Riverside recently after 2011 and one in 2013.
