It took me exactly 1 month, 31 days of permanent work - only interrupted by worshipping and the minimum of sleeping, eating, superMarket-shopping and celebrating my mother's 80th birthDay - to make the tables&maps.

Thank you very much for your hard work Georg. It's an interesting look into the psephology of such a vast and varied country.

Thanks so much for your efforts, Georg. It occurs to me that Meghalaya has a similar shape to that of Carinthia. Perhaps Shillong ought to be twinned with Klagenfurt?

ibfc will know far more, but the exitPolls are coming out. MadhyaPradesh and Telangana close as expected, but according to some polls Chhattisgarh (edge INC) and Rajasthan (edge BJP) could be close, too.

Exit polls are remarkably all over the place in all the states. We will have to wait till Sunday.

Presently 2 for each (Christian Mizoram will count tomorrow):
Madhya Pradesh: As claimed by AxisMyIndia, BJP is surprisingly far ahead. Rajasthan: Here only narrowly (what had been my suspicion now and again, but i went with Common Wisdom and a clear victory). Chhattisgarh: INC (but presently just 50:40). Telangana: INC clearly ahead of BRS (exTRS) ~70 : 50 all others.

BJP is now leading also in Chhattisgarh, even clearly. Thus they can be quite satified. Sure, before the INC-victory in Karnataka they had been BRS' main challenger in Telangana, but INC remaining in second place there will bind BRS federally to the NDA-camp.

Governors (Mizoram pending): With its sovereign victories in Rajasthan, MadhyaPradesh and even Chhattisgarh BJP has sharpened its grip onto the poor Hindi-north, without which INC+ will have no chance to win next year's General Election.

Barring something extraordinary we are looking at another big BJP win next year. Modi is a truly outstanding politician, easily among the very best of his generation anywhere in the world.

Mizoram has been won by the opposition Zoram People’s Movement. The ruling Mizo National Front has been routed with CM Zoramthanga losing his seat.

Incredibly, no INC or INC-led state government has been *re*-elected since Modi came to power. That is one hell of a stat.

Revanth Reddy, the state INC chief will be the next CM of Telangana. Started his career in the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS before joining the TRS, the TDP and then INC. He’s considered to be the driving force behind the party’s win in the state and is also considered to be very close to TDP Chief, Chandrababu Naidu.

A journalist remarked that Modi fights every state election as if he is the lead candidate. That's something you can only do if either you're genuinely popular, or unbelievably confident. Arguably he is both.

Maybe the secret of Modi is that he doesn't - unlike so many of his type around the world - just major on the ethnicism and culture war stuff, but actually manages to combine this with governing effectively on the whole. Compare with the slapdash nature of Trump or Bolsonaro.
