The BJP has won! Because it has lost!
[Karnataka has nearly allWays voted against the national trend.]

The BJP could have played the Hindutva-card far more, but declined to do so as Karnataka would have remained an upHillBattle unlikely to be won and the manipulation of ideals too obvious. Also it remained at respectable ~35% and - with JD(S) being semi-dead - has established itself there as the second big party.

Congress do seem to be making a bit of a comeback at state level.

Congress do seem to be making a bit of a comeback at state level. Not exactly surprising after 9 years of BJP rule at national level.

Congress do seem to be making a bit of a comeback at state level. While probably retaining Chhattisgarh they will lose Rajasthan later this year, though. Modi is still super-popular, it's just, that most regional BJP-governments aren't (as is not unusual in India).

More alarming for BJP than Karnataka was, that it received in the local elections in Uttar Pradesh only ~50% of councillors, what is not impressive for a regionally governing party.

Gujarat looks a bit like a back to front Tendring where number 82 on that map is Walton-on-the-Naze
