I don't think they will be able to invest - Euro or no Euro - unless the debts are written off
And the Euro will only work if Germany is willing to accept that they as a richer country are going to have to effectively support the poorer countries, exactly as would happen internally between regions of a nation state.
I'm in favour of the Euro in principle, but Germany is actually the problem and the outlier more then Greece in terms of its stability. I think keeping the Euro but not moving towards greater political union will prove a failure

There needs to be a cultural shift in Greece as well. The days of lax tax practices, outright corruption,13 months pay in a year...these need to go,and the Greek electorate need to accept it.

Yes, I agree with that too. I can't see either of the old parties being able to sort this given they were the culprits in the first place and how very ingrained those practices are within their mindset. I hope Syriza can.

Now it looks like the main question is what will the coalition maths be like for them when they win the election.

I'm starting to think the purpose of this election is to boost the Greek economy by creating work for thousands of additional people in the polling industry.

I'm starting to think the purpose of this election is to boost the Greek economy by creating work for thousands of additional people in the polling industry. Well you say that but I suspect that if you're looking for 'most polls produced in the month leading up to the election' that in April and the first week of May we'll see the UK beat Greece by some distance.

I think that the Greeks are working on the basis that no matter what they bloody well vote for it is little more than a minor irritant in the bigger scheme of things and realistically that is true. Greece represents about 2% of the Eurozone's GDP.....chicken feed. However, it seems that Frau Merkel who, let's face it, is the one calling the shots on this, is making all the right noises for a Grexit if that is how it goes. The real issue is France and Holland, who both have huge economic problems and of course the ever growing turd in the water pipe, Italy. Italy has seen no growth since it joined the Euro. Its debts amount to about 135% of GDP with deflation galloping towards it at an alarming rate, if it hasn't already turned up. That will of course mean that its debt burden is about to start increasing even if it isn't already. The Eurozone can't bail Italy out, it is simply too big. Prepare for Large scale QE It's a question, also, of how long Finland will want to keep chipping in. There are periodic noises from there. Once people say no more, that's it, no matter how much the Germans want it. Finland's Parliamentary elections are due on the 19th of April this year. We'll see if events in Greece become an election issue there.
