I note that the 1966 BBC election results programme featured graphs of results by time for 1959 and 1964. It would be interesting to show these side to side with 2015 because things seemed to move rather slowly this year.

Did You also have the impression on ElectionNight, that at the - surely not too numerous - Scottish declarations shown on BBC only some candidates of the "unscottish" Tories wore kilts? Don't do SNP-politicians that?

Don't do SNP-politicians that? Gross oversimplification, but basically its a class thing. The kilt can be worn for a number of reasons - formally for weddings, to display national allegiance at a football match, etc... but generally those who would wear one to an election count are more likely to be from a social class who are more likely to be Tories (or maybe Lib Dems).

Should also note two cases of wrong results being announced on the Sky News ticker - both in the Liberal Democrats' favour. They were wrongly reported to have retained Bristol West, and wrongly reported to have gained Newark from the Conservatives.

A shamefully large number of people actually took the latter result at face value - that's almost worthy of the Amazing Stupidity and Ignorance thread.

They were wrongly reported to have retained Bristol West, and wrongly reported to have gained Newark from the Conservatives. Bristol West would have been believable before the exit poll came out - it was a result I had predicted. But Newark is amusing (the last time a Liberal was elected for that constituency was in 1880). Reminds me of "Liberal gain Birkenhead" by the BBC in 1987.

In 1981, the ITN coverage of the GLA election showed the shock result of Simon Hughes taking Bermondsey for the Liberals ...

Bermondsey must hold the record for being wrongly reported. Simon Hughes was reported to have lost by ITN in both 1987 and 1992.
If you listen to the declaration of the 1983 byelection the returning officer announces Hughes's vote as "one thousand - er, seventeen thousand" so perhaps it's something in the water.

I seem to remember in either 1992 or 1996 a number of states being erroneously called for Ross Perot.

It was 1992 and it must be have been the BBC's computer because ABC didn't call Maine until 1.00am GMT and I am sure that Maine popped up white on the BBC's map long before that.

That was when Peter Snow famously said "If Ross Perot's taken Pennsylvania I'm a Dutchman". I had the whole thing on video at one time but I think it got taped over unfortunately.

Hour Three of 1966 (up to 0030 GMT) Extraordinary. Almost 300 results in by 12:30am. Well, the polls closed at 9 pm and there were far, far fewer candidates, and it was not local election day, I think.

Very interesting again; now what we need is coverage of the second day, 1966, if it exists.
