There was a district council by-election in Ollerton in September, and I put in the preview that there had been a large number of small earthquakes in the area recently, which the British Geological Survey think is linked to mineworking at Thoresby Colliery.
The weekend after that by-election I was in a second-hand bookshop, which was offering for sale a 200-page book from the 1970s on the geology of Ollerton...

Bowydd & Rhiw : 79.4% Welsh-speaking according to the 2001 Census.
Which is high.
But not as high as nearby Diffwys & Maenofferen at 83.7%.

I have been pointing out for some time here the main reason why any hope that plaid had of future expansion throughout Wales has ground to a final shuddering halt.
The majority of the Welsh electorate have grown up with and recognise the bigoted nasty racism of their leadership and a number of their supporters as is abley demonstrated here.
What a charming thing to say about the English Meirion, but please keep up your true characteristics as it helps put a further nail in plaids electoral chances with every utterance.

That's very hurtful Joe. I'm extremely disappointed in you and am very, very upset at your unkind critique, in fact I'm devastated.
However on a brighter note!
It's nice to welcome back the worlds worst political analyst, good ole Mark Senior, when he's not providing some of the poorest electoral insight known to man across the interweb it's nice to know that he's still humble enough to pop back here to interact with us mere mortals.
Hooray for Mark!!

Its just the constant attacks on plaid cymru. We all know they are anti English rural weirdoes without the constant reminders. Sorry if I was mean. Most of my posts are pretty damm dull. I withdraw my comment.

I withdraw my comment. That's a shame when I've 'liked' it! Arthur posted a rather feeble joke, one of our Plaid supporters rather over-reacted, Cefin joined in ...... Little light was shed on the coming by-election. And as a former Plaid member I would dissent from the view that Plaid are "anti English rural weirdos". Sadly, however, a proportion of their supporters are ..... But then, some Lib Dems are sandal-wearing, bearded muesli-knitters (but rather fewer now than a few years ago).
