Its just the constant attacks on plaid cymru. We all know they are anti English rural weirdoes without the constant reminders. Sorry if I was mean. Most of my posts are pretty damm dull. I withdraw my comment. That's a shame when I've 'liked' it! Arthur posted a rather feeble joke, one of our Plaid supporters rather over-reacted, Cefin joined in ...... Little light was shed on the coming by-election. And as a former Plaid member I would dissent from the view that Plaid are "anti English rural weirdos". Sadly, however, a proportion of their supporters are ..... But then, some Lib Dems are sandal-wearing, bearded muesli-knitters (but rather fewer now than a few years ago). Rather fewer of every sub stratum I would have thought?

My father is a bespectacled sandal wearing bearded cyclist living in the middle class suburbs of a large northern city who eats museli for breakfast every day. He will, as usual, be voting for a lib dem councillor but through constant canvassing has promised to vote Con in the general.

He might be onto a non-starter with that.

My mate's utter, utter loathing of Scousers would probably preclude that. Anyway, I didn't know he was SLP, anyone else well known? (other than Scargill of course)

When the Kingston St James's result comes through, we have to compare the Lib Dem vote share not to the 22% they got in May, but to the about 50% they claimed to have got in the ward in the 2010 general election. Because the Lib Dem leaflets say clearly that is the comparison:

(other than Scargill of course) Unfortunately not (that I know). The fact is, of course, that about half of the party's vote comes from the latter's name recognition alone; we're fucked once he's gone.

I've seen plenty of things like "David Cameron's Conservative candidate" etc before, but never before seen a council candidate being referred to as being their MP's candidate- "Ed Davey's candidate Annette Wookey" just sounds bizarre. And not just because her name sounds like somebody has built a replica of a Somerset tourist attraction out of gauze or lace.
