I don't know much about Israeli politics. Are these figures good or bad for the current PM? Exit polls averaged as per Haaretz: Labor: 27 Likud: 27 Joint List: 13 Yesh Atid: 12 Kulanu: 10 Jewish Home: 8 Shas: 7 United Torah Judaism: 6 Yisrael Beiteinu: 5 Meretz: 5 Yahad: out

On balance, probably good. The one imponderable is that Yesh Atid's leadership despises Bibi and Shas would work with the ZU. Of course, any party in a ZU led government would have a greater number of cabinet posts as the Joint List won't sit in the government.

Self-interest; a coalition of ZU,YA and Kulanu, with the non-governmental support of JL and the opposition to Bibi of Meretz (not taking seats in government), means more seats at the cabinet table.

On those figures it won't be easy for either party to cobble together a government; a massive complicating factor for Bibi is that he's personally alienated a lot of key players that you'd otherwise assume to be in his camp. A unity government (i.e. grand coalition) is not out of the question either.

I want to believe it could happen... Ultimately Lapid could try to repeat his previous manoeuvres, this time with Kulanu. Don't know if that's possible.

Lapid went out of his way to keep the Haredim out last time. If he does it again things get complicated. With Kalanu, Shas is unnecessary. A Likud- ZU- Kulanu government, with Moshe Kahlon presiding over a Likudnik-Labour-Livinist cabinet, could be a good thing.

Surely Livni would find a way of arguing she should be premier... I don't see the largest parties agreeing to a third party leader as premier.

For what little it's worth at this stage, Likud apparatchiks are briefing to the effect that a grand coalition would be a good idea.

There is a high turnout , 25.6 percent by midday the highest rate since 1999. Bibi is complaining that Arab voters are coming out in significant numbers. How I loathe this incompetent racist scumbag. What a dead end it will be for Israel if he returns to power.

Only if the 'moderate' parties are determined to stop Bibi, thus forming a government without crossing the 60+ barrier.
